Liked: Wonderful breakfast. Cool artsy ambiance. A good place to chill.

Disliked: It's very far from town so it's pretty isolated from everything else in punta arenas. The staff are nice but not overly helpful.

Liked: The decor of this hostel is fabulous and its obvious that a lot of thought went into it, great living area. The beds were really comfortable and warm.

Disliked: The staff were not always available - for example nobody bothered restocking the breakfast supplies, so you had to ask for everything if you wanted it (e.g. more water in the kettle, butter, a clean cup etc). We actually nearly got into a lot of trouble because of the poor staffing; we had booked a flight in the afternoon and had left our bags in the hostel but when we came back to collect them nobody was answering the door! It was completely unstaffed! They seemed to come back 20 minutes later, but it made us really panic. The toilet sometimes blocked as well.

Disliked: The concerts went too late so we couldn't sleep. The bathrooms were filthy and looked like they were never cleaned. It was not explained to us that the kitchen was not available so we bought food and were then told we couldn't cook it which was a waste of money. There was no apology or any chance to make an exception. There were never any staff around to help or ask questions. They only left a note for us saying we had to check out and how much we had to pay. We go to hostels to sleep, eat cheaply by cooking and get local information from the owners - none of these things were possible at Imago Mundi.

Liked: The property is a short walk from the downtown area in Punta Arenas and was clean. The price for a bed in a shared room was similar to other budget hostels. There is a cafe at the hostel (closes at 9) which is convenient although I did not eat there and left before breakfast the next day so I can't comment on the food.

Disliked: Don't expect a lot of tourist assistance - the woman at the front desk was either unable or unwilling to provide information on bus transportation to Puerto Natales and on to Torres del Paine which is a pretty common thing to do in that area. She rather impatiently handed me a map of the town and said something about there being a lot of bus companies and left it at that. I arrived around 8:30 at night and wanted to catch the bus to Puerto Natales the next day so after checking in I headed to town to try to get bus information. I did manage to stumble upon a bus company office and make my arrangements but a little assistance from the hostel would have saved me a lot of time walking around a strange city by myself at night. When I returned to the hostel the café had closed and I found myself completely alone which was unexpected and a little creepy. (Apparently I was the only guest that night). At some point the woman from the front desk returned and did not seem pleased to find me preparing food in the kitchen. After I finished cooking my food and moved into the dining room she closed the kitchen door with what I can only describe as a rather pointed slam! I am sure there are friendlier and more helpful places to stay. I picked this one because I was traveling alone and thought that a hostel with an onsite café and rock climbing gym would have a lot of people and fun things going on but that was not the case when I was there.

Liked: Beautiful space with healing energy, ended up staying two more nights than originally planned. Breakfast was great with freshly baked bread, jams, cereals and fresh fruit. The common area is filled with natural light and has a nice view over the city. The dorm that I stayed in had a furnace which made the room warm and cozy as it got quite cold at nights. Ooo...and the beds were super comfortable, the kind you just wanted to stay and sleep in, and the bed sheets were the best quality I've come across in any hostel so far. Met some lovely people there during my stay. Would definitely recommend to others and go back again myself!

Disliked: The location was a little far off the city centre, however the bus station I got the bus to El Chalten was just 10 min walk away, and the supermarket and some other facilities were not that far. You could not use the kitchen until after 21:00, which was not ideal, but as I spent the days out anyway, so personally I had no need to use the facilities until later. Did not get the wifi in my room. There was no lockers in the room.

Liked: Imago Mundi Hostel is a wonderful place to meet other travelers, with an inviting living room and dining area which boasts a lovely view of Punta Arenas (although Punta Arenas at ground level is not lovely). The staff are friendly and laid back. There are closer hostels to the center of town, although it is only a seven minute walk.

Disliked: Miriam left no negative feedback.
