Liked: Das Hostel lag 3min vom Zentrum entfernt. Das Frühstück war okay (Menge abgezählt), mehr oder spezielle Wünsche werden gegen Bares erfüllt. Geschäftsführer sprechen mehrere Sprachen, Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Disliked: Ich fand das Preis / Leistungsverhältnis war nicht in Ordnung.

Liked: I liked this place a lot and stayed there twice. The staff are friendly, helpful and make the guests feel at home. It is really clean, the breakfast is yummy and the kitchen is well equipped and spacious. There is a lot of information for other places and the tour I went on (a little pricey) was really good fun.

Disliked: hannah left no negative feedback.

Liked: Very friendly and helpful staff. Gave us lots of information about the area. Our double room was a good size and everything was clean. Great location with 5 min walk into town.

Disliked: The bathrooms could do with updating, although they were clean.

Liked: The hostel is beautiful and our room was the best double we have had in all of South America. Staff were so friendly, hostel squeaky clean and the breakfast delicious.

Disliked: The only one thing is that I found the tours offered by the hostel very expensive.

Liked: the staff were really helpful and friendly especially Maria-Jose! The common areas were cosy and the kitchen big. when the hostel is not full they also spread out the people over several rooms to give people space which is nice

Liked: The staff is very helpfull and nice they offer also nice tours!

Liked: From the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and wonderful. The location is excellent, best night's sleep I have had for ages. Even though Puertes Vares is cold, it certainly isn't in the hostel. The whole hostel is warm, friendly, super clean and the hot water in the shower is super hot. Breakfast was good, great to have bread other than white bread. Yes you paid extra for a good coffee, but to me it was worth having an excellent coffee in the morning. There is so much character in the building and town you won't want to leave. I had a fantastic time there and would highly recommend you stay at Compass del Sur.

Liked: The hostel itself has great character. A great place to stay to have a quiet get away. Chloe and Marie were very helpful and gave me lots of information on things to do in and around puerto varas. I even ended up staying another night. The kitchen is very well equipped the best i have seen.

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: Good hostel a few mins walk from centre of town. Nice large building with plenty of room, massive kitchen, and good facilities. Breakfast good with home made jams and breads. Friendly owner and very helpful.

Disliked: Hostel was quite quiet but this was due to us being off season. Breakfast was good but did not like having to pay extra for proper coffee.

Liked: Very clean and cozy with the fireplaces. Large kitchen easy to use. Comfortable beds.

Disliked: Overall a great hostel. Somewhat larger than some other hostels.

Liked: - good breakfast with real bread - space to hang up towels for drying - nice common rooms

Disliked: - a bit pricy (but I guess thats for the breakfast ;) - no lockers, but my "important documents" were stored at the reception after asking

Liked: We liked the location. The kitchen was spacious and clean so we were able to cook. The room was a good size. There was an fairly decent sized living and eating area so you were able to eat and socialise. The living area had alot of seating and a good atmosphere.

Disliked: Our room was freezing, however im sure if we asked for a heater we would have received one. So we should have asked really. The staff at the hostel didnt seem to know an awful alot about trips to do in the area. We booked a trip with a local tour company Turis- Tour , recommended by the hostel. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BOOK A TRIP WITH THIS COMPANY - THEY ARE BEYOND DISGRACEFUL. We booked a trip to the Penguin colony and paid the hostel the rate. When we were on the trip - ie on the ferry heading for the island, our tour guide demanded additional money from us for the trip. We told her we paid the hostel and that there must be some confusion and that we would sort it out with the hostel when we got back. We didnt want to hand over more cash when we did not deal with them in the first instance and especially when the hostel told us the price. We told them if there was an issue with payment, they should have told us before we got on the bus at our hostel - not when we are on a ferry crossing the island. They persisted to demand the money, they would not ring the hostel. They told us if we didnt pay the extra money we would be literally left on the side of the road, to make our own way back and that we would receive no freund what so ever. So after a long debate we paid the additional money. We then proceeded to get on another bus and they once again demanded more money from us, again threatening to throw us off the bus. We refused point blank and continued with the trip. When we arrived at the restuarant for lunch they said that we had to pay for our own lunch but the other tourists in our group- their lunch was paid for. Total joke. To make matters worse our tour guide Marsella had no idea what she was talking about, and she was the most ungenuine person we have ever met in our lives. Marsella was truly the worst tour guide I have ever come across. We had a terrible, stressful and awful day. After lunch two of the other tourists wanted to visit a restuarant/wine bar, we were not even consulted we were just driven there as Marsella was just out hoping for a tip- From them at least as she knew at this stage she was getting nothing from us. Bascially we spent the whole day driving and a half hour on a boat to see the penguins. Apparently we learned that you can make this trip yourself so please do. So when we returned to the hostel we told them what had happened and in fairness they refunded this additional money which we paid to the tour company. The tour company made a mistake but would not admit it- even thought the hostel had it in an e-mail. We met a few other tourists in the town that this happended to also and they refused to give them any money back. Too add insult to injury I have since heard that the hostel had booked another tour for another couple with the same company. I really thought that they would find a more repuatable company to allow travellers enjoy their tours- which are not cheap by the way. You book with your hostel because you trust them.

Liked: Two Swedes coming to Puerto Varas and we happend to stay at a hostel with a Swedish owner! Very ironic :) The owner is super-friendly and very easy to talk too, has a lot of cool stories to tell. Compass del sur is extremely cosy and it´s a great place to relax, have a glas of wine, sit down with a good book in one of the comfy sofas and just chill. The staff is very friendly, the hostel is clean, the beds are nice and it has a good mix of travellers coming in. Decent breakfast too!
