We are a safe family hostel located close to the center of town. The hostel is a basic house which has everything a backpacker needs. There is a clean bathroom and kitchen, comfortable rooms and information on things to do in and around Ovalle.

Jaime's Crazy House is a new backpacker hostel which opened in March 2009.

My name is Juana Magdalena, and I am a Chilenian woman. When I was younger I traveled a lot in South America as a backpacker (Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). The needs of a backpacker are something I know.

We also have a cyber café attached to the property which is free for everyone who stays with us to use (including Cable Television and Wi-Fi). There is also a small car available for our guests to use.

It is within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas, fruit and vegetable markets, museum, bus terminal and supermarkets.

We are open 24 hours and are able to pick you up from the bus terminal; all you need to do is tell us what time you expect to arrive.

Accommodation Information

We are a small hostel offering comfortable dormitory style accommodation. you can also book a double room but please note that the room does not have an ensuite and you will still have to share the bathroom and kitchen with other guests. Sleeping bags are not necessary as all linen and blankets are provided.

Location Information

There is much to see and do in and around Ovalle, which is located in the Coquimbo region, approximately 6 hours north of Santiago. You can enjoy different activities as horse riding, fishing, cycling, hiking and much more. The climate is warm and sunny all year around.

Alternatively, you can take one of our tours which are at special prices for our guests. Our tour to the magical Valle del Encanto costs only 10.000 Pesos. Our full day tour to Vicuna and Elqui Valley costs only 20.000 Pesos.
