Liked: It's alright and convenient

Liked: It's close to campus so if that's what you need most and are on a tight budget, I would recommend this place. Security seems pretty good.

Disliked: It's perhaps not the cleanest (stained sheets, unswept floor), it's a bit odd when you open your front door and it's the washroom you have to walk through to get to the room, be aware that he'll charge you tax on the room rate (even though it's not stated on the hostel website when booking) and the walls are very thin so depending on who's staying there (two nights were good but on the weekend lots of loud music and some girl screaming late at night doing who knows what with her equally loud boyfriend). But what it comes down to is you get what you pay for, if you want something fancy and nice then you'll have to spend the extra money to get it:)

Liked: It is really cheap and still comfortable enough. It is really close to York University which can be handy but then very far of the city centre.

Disliked: Nobody was here when I arrived, I had to wait outside and was about to leave when some tenant opened the door for me.

Liked: I was never disturbed, had my own room; it worked in a pinch.

Disliked: This isn't really a hostel per se. It's a series of rooms in student housing spread out over a whole neighborhood. The guy apparently rents out his extras. When we arrived we were led around to different several sites until we found acceptable rooms (meaning they didn't really have any particularly in mind when they booked the reservation, which suggests that in extreme cases they might take a reservation even while having NOTHING that matches) and there was no real discount for staying a whole week or month. The York U Village is nice enough and very safe, I think, but it's a LONG commute by public transit downtown...

Liked: The price

Disliked: We weren't in the room advertised on hostelbookers.com, we were actually moved three times in less than two weeks. The property was dirty, loud music was played until around 4am from the people who lived there long term and this was not dealt with by the landlord despite complaints. New floors were being laid above us which went on till about 10pm over a few nights, which forced us out of the house until then because of the noise. Location is ok for students but not for people who want to go sightseeing.

Liked: The manager was really friendly and helpfull, the comon area was really clean and it was not to expensive, it was cheap. The Internet was working really well, the shower was perfect (hot water). I had a single room with a private bathroom and it was big enaugh for one person, I had a TV with cable.

Disliked: If you are coming to Toronto to study at York University that's ok but if you are coming to visit the city forget about it it's way to far from downtown (one hour in transportation even more than an hour and a half on evening) and the groceries are also fare away you have to take the bus. The bed sheets and pellow case seemed clean but they don't smelt detergent so I don't know if they clean it or not ( I didn't use it because I always bring mine when I go to an hostel), the wash room was not cleaned on the day of my arrival, I had to do it myself. But you get what you pay for.

Disliked: Really shitty place. Dirty, noicy. No services. You had to call the manager if you wanted anything (like toilet paper for example).

Disliked: No toilet paper, no towels & is far to walk to get to any local shops.

Liked: friendly atmosphere. its cheap n worthy for that money.for those who wish to stay for a short duration in an economical basis,this place would be perfect. made friends during my stay...over ll its good.

Disliked: there was no one to take any personal care.the person in charge doesn come most of the time so we are left on our own. it would have been better if someone was there at times needed.

Liked: This place was great for the price. $15/person/night or a full fridge, bathroom, microwave, double bed. The room is well lit, with very nice floors that look almost new. Linens and bathroom were clean. The manager left a contact number and collected his $61 dollars at the beginning of our stay, saving us from tracking him down on check-out.

Disliked: Anything but soundproof, though that is to be expected. Also, there were no towels in the bathroom.

Liked: Great value - $50 for a double bed, kitchen, and private bathroom.

Disliked: The manager's english is very poor. Had a hard time communicating and there was a mixup about the deposit I paid.

Liked: - booked a shared room (2 beds) got a single for the same price - the "firm" mattresses - best I had in Canada - toaster, electric kettle and large (shared) fridge in the kitchen - recommendable only for longer stays as downtown is very far away (and everything else except Tim Horton´s, YU, and Jane-Finch-Mall with some supermarkets)

Disliked: - got only one roll of toilet paper for 12 nights and I also had to buy my own pans, cutlery etc. as the kitchen/ the whole place is designed for longer term tenants who bring their own stuff - had a basement room without real window (was more a ventilation hole - still OK, though) - that you only see the number when you arrive at the address - I had no working phone! Plus address given in add is not necessarily the place where you will stay as they have several houses - but I was driven there and got a place closer to the express bus (196).

Liked: Internet connection, private room for only 20$, 40 min. from downtown with TTC

Disliked: Your comfort will depend on your other roommates. Keep in mind it's a students house and probably rent the rooms that students from York didn't take. So in place like this you never know what could happen. Party right in the middle of the night, strange smell from kitchen, heavy chatting. Same for the cleanness, students are not know to be fan of cleaning so ... Anyway the price is fair.
