Liked: Excellent location close to the metro (only a few blocks away) and then once on the metro downtown was just 2 stops away! Everything was cozy. I arrived on a cold night and the room was warm, as well as the nice blanket my bed was provided with! In the morning there was a simple breakfast--totally unexpected but very appreciated!

Disliked: Nothing--one of the very best hostel experiences I have had. Of course, the people are what make a stay memorable or nightmarish or fun. I arrived when there were very few guests, and those who were there were interesting and pleasant. I have no complaints.

Liked: In a more tranquil part of the city. You get what you pay for, yes i saw a mouse run through my room, but the other guests were kind and staff were excellent. Sheets clean. Free internet

Disliked: i like this hostel, but would not recommend it to my mother.

Liked: The location

Disliked: This hostel was a big shock to us. Luckily we had opted for the 'private room'. Otherwise people were sleeping on mattresses on the floor, some even outside under the balcony! There was only one toilet and bathroom per floor, which could be housing up to at least 12 people and they were filthy. I didn't see anyone attempt to clean in the three days we spent there. The kitchens were dirty and a mess and the breakfast facilities were poorly laid out in a tiny kitchen.

Liked: Its a very cool place architecturally like something out a Harry Potter film. The staff was helpful, all around a good experience.

Disliked: No complaints really.

Liked: you definitely have to be an open minded person to stay in this hostel. there is a possibility that you will be sleeping in the lobby, or you could have a room. or you could have a "room" that is really a space in the lobby that is blocked off by some sheets hanging from the ceiling. that being said, i thought the place was great. it has a lot of character and everyone is very friendly. for the price, in montreal, it was fine for 2 nights. like i said be open minded!

Liked: Good breakfast, nice location. 20min walk from downtown. The street going there is already full of bars, restaurants and shops. Bus station in same distance

Disliked: Bed's are all different and I had unluck. Just a couple of stapled matrasses on eachother.

Liked: The workers are nice. The hostel is like home. Bathroom is quite large.

Disliked: There is no key to enter the hostel and there is no looker either. I didn't get stolen anything but I was worried about security.

Liked: We stayed in the blue room (private double, shared bathroom, bottom floor). The room was amazingly well heated. The kitchen was right outside our room and had tons of space for private cooking and private food storage (but the free breakfast is hosted in the upstairs kitchen). There are TVs on both floors and hammocks to watch from. All day breakfast! Free internet and free wifi. Flexibility in check-in and check-out timings.

Disliked: Veeeery small bathroom with a tiny sink on the bottom floor. Only two bathrooms in the whole house.

Liked: the staff is at least nice. I think they know that thier :hostal: is crap and so they try their best to make you feel comfortable

Disliked: ITS A MESS. there are beds in the hall ways....makeshift showers....its gross and not like any hostel ive been to.

Liked: I think it depends on who works there, and who are the guests : sometimes it is clean, sometimes it is not, sometimes people are nice, sometimes no. I didn't like the handyman, who was rude. I was happy to be in the Annexe, it was a great experience, and the young blond man working was really nice, but I wouldn't like to be in the principal place, the only one open during the year, where the atmosphere is so bad. During the summer, go to the Annexe, it is better, even if further from the metro.

Disliked: they own 2 properties and one seemed way too crowded. luckily I got in the nicer of the 2 places.

Liked: Chez Jean has another house just a few blocks away which offers Private rooms and the same price, why not right??! The house I stayed in Had two rooms completely unfurnished and was exactly what was needed for a two night stay with my friend. Right next to La Parc Fontaine and the Metro is only 5 blocks away. Definetly what you pay for!

Disliked: The house I was in had very little water pressure. I also would have preferred to stay in the main hostel had i known that is where most other people are living. There are four beds upstairs, a hammock, 3 couch beds and two beds downstairs. It is a Hostel in every aspect.

Liked: Very inexpensive and is located in a local area when in comparison to the eateries and shops.

Disliked: It seemed as if the administration was extremely biased when it came to dealing with people who spoke a language other than french. Even though they speak english well at the hostel i would be ignored or blown off if i made a request or attempted to communicate in english, my first language.
