The Officers Quarters Hostel

Miramichi has a long history of men working the logs on the river. The logs fed the many pulp and lumber mills along the river. In the past there were several pulp mills and many lumber mills. Today, there are no pulp mills and just a few lumber mills still operating.

Miramichi is now a destination for people who enjoy festivals all summer and several in the winter, socialising and shopping keep this place busy.

We are located in the Chatham area of Miramichi New Brunswick. The Officer's Quarters Hostel is located on the Old Military Base, in an area known as Curtis Park. Our Building is a large structure that housed the "Single Officers". The building is a sturdy structure with large rooms suitable for the officers. We have done a lot of updating of the rooms and the rest of the building but the flavour is still there.
We are offering, "The Officers Lounge" complete with a sitting area for TV, Sports Games and for movies. As well we have a Pool Table and a vending machine available for your use.
Laundry / Kitchen / BBQ may be available -
The building is very quiet and I believe that you will have a most peaceful sleep.

Today there are River Boat Tours; River Tubing, Kitchen Parties, Bens Fast food Diner (operating since about 1927 in the same building) Brian Mulroney ate here in his college days here (his sons mane is Ben –any connection?); historic towns; old buildings; live evening music in the park with old time dancing at Ritchie’s Warf in Newcastle area; various Festivals year around. There is a massive Basilica dominates the Chatham skyline (worth a look); as well as the huge Centennial Bridge spans the wide Miramichi River; a wide spectrum of historic buildings, and people that have been here for generations; as well you can explore the many other unique things that make up this predominantly Irish settlement, known as the ‘Irish Capital of Canada’.
Set in some of the finest backwoods possible, easy access to the area and a good kicking off place for outdoor adventure. Hiking in summer; Nordic Skiing and snowmobiling in winter.
Miramichi is also the home to the Water Bombers that help protect the forests of New Brunswick.
Miramichi is home to an NBCC campus; and soon the old college "St. Thomas" returns to Chatham after several decades of being absconded by Fredericton.

Accommodation Information

Accommodation:
Dorm Rooms - $20/night/bed - There are four bunk beds per room. Bedding and towels are optional for an extra of 7.50 for the week (or less)

Private Rooms - 25/night/person (based on double occupancy) = 50/night for the two. These rooms are nicely decorated and with either a double antique bed or with a queen sized bed. The rooms are complete with linen, pillows, towels and soap.

• Each room has a large closet; sink and a mirror; remote ceiling fans; a desk and a large window.
• Kitchen and baths are just down the hall
• Breakfast is complementary during June, July and August. (Continental Breakfast) If you want something more substantial (pancakes, French Toast it is available. (for just $5 more)
• Cyclists can store their bikes in a secure area.
• Motor bikes can be parked just outside your window and covered with a tarp.
• Cars have plenty of paved parking
• RV’s and tents can use the lawn area ($10) per night; kitchen and bath use included

Location Information

Welcome to Miramichi New Brunswick. The city of about 20,000 is a unique collection of several villages and towns scattered along the banks of the Mighty Miramichi River. Miramichi is about an hour and a half hour drive north of Moncton NB and about 1 hour south of Bathurst NB; or about one and a half hours from Fredericton NB.
