Kip and Kaboodle

Small, friendly hostel in quiet country setting located conveniently between Mahone Bay (3km) and Lunenburg (7km). One dorm room, one private 3-person room and one private double (with one double bed). We are near beaches, hiking trails, kayak tours and whale watching, plus museums, art galleries and so much more! Only one hour from Halifax. Open May - October.

This is the place to head for a few days of peace & quiet out in the country. The closest beach is only 1 kilometer away and for those of you who aren't quite willing to take a plunge in the North Atlantic, there is a pool right outside the door.

Each bed is fully-made and awaiting your arrival. Also available are small lockers for valuables. The lockers are contained in the largest of the three bedrooms. If you wish to use a locker you can either use your own lock, or else come to us: we have locks available for a $5 deposit (the $5 is returned when the lock is returned). Upstairs there are two 3-piece bathrooms with shower closets for your convenience, as well as our 6 person dorm room and private 3-person room.

Downstairs there is one fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave) which is accessible to all guests, and BBQ facilities are available on request, as well as facilities for cooking your own lobster (why spend a fortune in a restaurant?). There is a small common area and dining room. Our private double room is also downstairs.

Cable internet access is available in the hostel, and also WIFI if you happen to have a laptop. Telephone can be used to make local calls or long distance calls with a calling card.

There is ample parking on site, as well as a few acres of land to stroll around in for a bit of peace & quiet. There are also numerous hiking trails in this area. Greg & Trudi can direct you to them: if you don't have your own vehicle, Trudi & the kids are usually willing to drop you off and/or pick you up if they are able.

We have one six-bed co-ed dorm room, one private 3-person room (one set of bunks and one single bed) and a private room with one double bed.

Location Information

We are between Mahone Bay and Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are very close to Westhaver's Beach and a short drive from Bachman's Beach. Hirtle's Beach and The Ovens are a bit farther away, but still only 30 minutes in a car. Hiking/cycling trails are scattered throughout this region of Nova Scotia.

There are plenty of pubs, restaurants & cafes, as well as fine dining choices in both Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. There are plenty of opportunities for some adventure tourism as well, with sea kayaking, cycling tours, whale & puffin watching tours, fishing tours, sailing tours as well as surfing and even public pools if you aren't ready to take a plunge in the Atlantic!
