Our accommodation’s central location on Cape Breton Island is the perfect spot from which to explore & hike the National & Provincial Parks, discover charming coastal towns like Mabou, Baddeck, Cheticamp and Ingonish. Go back in time at Louisbourg, fill your belly with fresh seafood, sample North America's only single malt whisky and feel the energy of the surf & sand on amazing beaches! Don't forget your camera!

We're amongst world class sailing, hiking, kayaking, windsurfing, cycling and whale watching. Learn about the diverse cultural history of Cape Breton Island & enjoy lively musical nightlife! Don't know what a Ceilidh is? You soon will!

Sit back, grab a hammock, relax and watch the eagles soar overhead and wildlife walk in the backyard!

Your bed is made for your arrival, so drop your bags and relax on our sunny outdoor patio. BBQ while taking in a 180 degree view of the lake, and later roast marshmallows & cook bannock over the bonfire! As the moon rises over the lake, make a wish on one of the countless stars above!

Private Rooms are also available but tend to book up quickly (especially in July, August & October; be sure to book early!)

Our Cape Breton hostel is the perfect location to begin and finish your Cabot Trail experience! We are only 10 minutes from the start/ finish of The Cabot Trail Scenic Drive!

Bear on the Lake sits on Salt Mountain, overlooking the beautiful Bras D'Or Lakes in the heart of Cape Breton. It does not get more tranquil than here!
Our central location is a perfect base to explore every nook & cranny of Cape Breton Island. If driving from Halifax, PEI, or New Brunswick arrive in the early afternoon in time to soak up the sun on our patio, BBQ for dinner and enjoy a bonfire! Then enjoy a good night's rest before beginning the Cabot Trail just minutes down the road!
