Liked: Cheap. Helpful staff.

Disliked: Rooms were not sealed to the outside and toilets were outside and quite filthy. Area was very dodgy at night.

Liked: very kind and friendly owners !!! some hours the day, you can meet the whole family there. Rose´s english is very good - we were really happy about that. Only few people in Salvador are able to speak or understand english.

Disliked: we stayed there during carneval.. it was, of course, very loud, no change to sleep before 4am. We booked the carneval-package..it was very expensive ! And, as we were in Salvador, we had to find out, that there existed much nicer hostels in Pelourinho..and much cheaper... We disliked the sanitary rooms/showers, and the breakfast, which contains only coffee, juice, 2 slices oof bread, and 2 slices of cheese/ham. We were still hungry every morning..

Liked: Owner was really helpful, she walked us to the supermarket and even made my partner some herbal remedy tea to help her sore throat! Nice quiet place for some down time after carnaval.

Disliked: May have been a small nightmare with only one shower during busier periods.

Liked: hey,this is a very good and clean place. we had excellent time there. the people speak English, are helpful and very kind. it's a familiarly atmosphere which enables an authentic experience in the heart of the historic centre. we stayed a couple of days. facilities, breakfast, rooms are absolutely worth it. I definitely enjoyed the shower in the backyard. in order to respond to some ratings made in here: there is another shower and toilet downstairs, breakfast always comes with fresh fruits, tee, coffee etc. and if there is something missing you just ask for it.we appreciate the good information about the city, safeness and the recommendations made by the owners. as the name says this is a “friendship-making” place, between tourist and travellers and even better and more important to locals. thanks,

Liked: Hostel Amizade was in many ways not a particularly good hostel although the building itself is great. The shared dorm had no door, there was one shower shared between all guests, towel and internet had to be paid for, no air conditioner and in my dorm not even a fan. Despite this the hostel had a very good atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Excellent location especially for the Carnival. I would recommend it despite my reservations.

Liked: I was shocked to find that there was only one shower for everyone to share, very small and pokey so difficult to get dressed bearing in mind my room became mixed sex. One toilet for men, one for women but that was ok. You have to pay for internet access on ancient computers and it took for ever to do anything online. The breakfast on the first day was good - fresh fruit, coffee, bread, cheese and ham, but the second day no cheese and ham so breakfast a bit sparse. This is very much a family hostel in that it is the family home with kids and the ironing done in the main room. The lady who runs it was very helpful though, and generally it was clean and tidy. Difficult to use kitchen as few utensils, or crockery , and you have to pay to use the cooker. Very easy and cheap to eat outside. Very noisy at night but fine if you dont plan to sleep - great location and fab for people watching. The mattress was very comfortable.

Liked: We stayed here for a week and had a great time. The owner is extremely helpful and has heaps of local knowledge. A fantastic place in a very cool locationin Salvador.

Liked: The owner Rose is absolutely lovely. We had great fun with her in carneval...she went with us to Barra where the trio electricos pass. What a great night! Also she is very helpful with all sorts of tourist information speaks brilliant English and makes you feel at home away from home. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Pelourinho and in carneval we has a great view onto the main stage from the balcony of the hostel. Also cool are the hammocks in the louge to relax. We loved it and will be back!!!!!
