Liked: Great breakfast, nice style of rooms & clean. Great pool area. Friendly, helpful staff.

Disliked: Great location in Santa Teresa, however, for Rio beaches and major tourist attractions, there are multiple transfers required or a costly taxi ride.

Liked: Lovely sitting room with view. Pretty garden with lots of sitting areas. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Easy access to major bus routes and metro via local microbus.

Liked: A beautiful property in a fantastic location in Santa Teresa. We felt like we were in a house from a James Bond film! The guest house hosts were very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel at home immediately.

Disliked: Nothing that I can think of!

Liked: loved the view, the building and the short stroll up the road to Santa Teresa

Disliked: the smell of cigarettes! Breakfast was inconsistent , one of the four days it was good, offering a selection the others it was the worst we've had in Brasil with only toast and a small slice of mango

Liked: The unique architecture and general atmosphere of the house is unbelievable, and significantly added to my Rio experience. My vacation would not have been nearly as good if I stayed somewhere else. There are many beautiful terraces and gardens around the house, and the view of the city at the bottom of the hill is great. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, and there is delicious, fresh food for breakfast every day (you can also request lunch and dinner, for an added fee). The rooms are pleasant and clean.

Disliked: The house is located a 15-minute walk from the nearest subway up a hill in Santa Teresa. The walk down during the day is scenic and very pleasant. However, at night, you would probably want to take a taxi up the hill because the street is desolate and dark. The taxi ride is short but will cost you about 7 Reais ($4-5).

Liked: Stayed at CasaNova for 5 nights during our stay in Rio, and it's a very nice place indeed. Rooms and bathroom are very clean (and cleaned everyday as well). We stayed in the North Room, with shared bathroom, which was perfectly fine. Only one more room that uses that bathroom/toilet. Breakfast was perfect! Freshly squeezed juice every morning, bread, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, toast, cheese, ham and sponge cake (also home made)! Perfect start of the day. Hosts and maid very nice and helpful. If you are looking for a clean, nice place, with good value for money, this is the place!

Disliked: It's located in Santa Teresa, which is a bit far from the beaches if that's what's on the agenda for your stay in Rio. It's not that hard to get to the beaches, but it will take ~30 minutes or so.

Liked: Great location and a lovely peaceful house with a nice view and friendly staff.

Disliked: Limited English language (as it is in much of Brazil) and it was expensive - even allowing for Carnaval time. I would stay in the shared room if I were to stay in Rio here again.

Liked: Vila CasaNova – very nice in every meaning: place, staff, people, location, … Enjoy a great view over Rio while having an excellent breakfast!

Liked: This hostel is more like a boutique hotel than a hostel!! Loved everything about it!

Disliked: This hostel probably isn't for lone travellers wanting to meet other people, as there are only a few rooms.

Liked: The open and friendly atmosphere - it feels like 'at home' - and the 'simple' comfort.

Disliked: The swimming pool - in an otherwise magnificent garden - didn't seem to be cleaned too often ...

Liked: Everything. Wonderful atmosphere in a lovely part of Rio. Amiable hosts who speak excellent English. Lovely building with fantastic garden and even a little pool.

Liked: Great hostel in a gorgeous part of Rio. Was the last stop of a four month trip and was probably the nicest. The neighbourhood is lovely and quaint with nice retaurants nearby. The room was great and we loved every minute of our stay here. It's filled with character.

Liked: Lovely house with fab view. Great area, Close to a tram stop & restaurants. Pool where you can chill out after a day´s sight seeing. Zabu & Manu are very friendly & speak good English. We met some lovely people but not a party place.

Liked: Really loved the place. The room was clean and tidy with a balcony with a great view of Rio. Zaba the owner was really friendly and very helpful to us during our stay. I loved the Breakfast (loved it Thanks Inesh !!!). It was fun get the tram up to the place and had a great meal in a nearby local restaurant which had a great samba party. If you want to get away from Copacabana and Ipanema this is a great place to stay. Close to Corcovado and its good to stay with the real locals. Not to0 dangerous either and plenty of restaurants around !!

Liked: A lovely location set on the side of a hill, great bars and restaurants in walking distance, easy to get to the centre of Rio by public transport - definately recommend the tram. Zaba and Manu are very helpful, Breakfasts are great.

Liked: interesting safe area, nice private room with balcony and lovely views,, spacious facilities and pool, excellent informative hosts who were always ready to help. Not convenient for beaches but reasonable transport links. I would strongly recommend this hostel although it may be more expensive than some.
