Liked: the bar of the hostel is used as a bar for public people, excellent location if you prefer to be in Rio instead of the playas, but copa is a 20min walk. Buses in the neighbourhood so you can easily go to the beaches , Cristo, .. Also they are serving dinner for 12 reals and you can sign up the moment itself. the locks under the bed are good and big, there is enough place for your backpack. So lots of brazilian people but travellers aswell, i would go back to this hostel.

Disliked: Minor thing is that you must pay for the computer with internet, but wifi is free of charge.

Liked: The breakfast was pretty good - fresh fruit etc.

Disliked: There was absolutely NO atmosphere! We have stayed in loads of hostels in the past, and we´ve never arrived somewhere to find absolutely NOONE around! Very odd indeed. The staff spoke terrible English, which made it difficult to organise anything and the man behind the desk was very rude. Definitely wouldn´t recommend it, unless it´s a last resort, as we didn´t realise quite how bad it was until we moved to the Mango Tree, which was just better in every way!

Liked: Roof-top laudry lines. Friendly staff. Cheap Pizza place very close.

Disliked: Loud music playing from 0900 until 2315 every day. Fairly expensive, but reasonable by Rio standards.

Liked: Very helpful and friendly staff, good atmosphere and really a lot to offer. Also had very clean facilities and a great breakfast for free, as well as the option to pay for dinner and lunch.

Disliked: The 12 bed room can feel a little crowded when it's full and the spiral stairs leading up to the girls can be a pain if you have a lot of baggage.

Liked: We stayed for New Years Eve, and a night either side. We booked this hostel specifically for the atmosphere geared up for the celebrations. Bar was great, and the staff made for a great atmosphere on NYE! Was great place to meet others and see in the New Year. As we stayed at this time, we paid quite an inflated price to stay here, which is understandable to an extent. But when you pay this amount, you'd expect some basics. For instance, if you're in a country that has poor sanitation, and toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet, then the bin needs to be emptied daily - didn't get done once for ourselves! Also, the only hostel I've ever stayed in where we had to pay for internet use! Location was a fair walk from the Copacabana, and involves going through a long tunnel, but do-able if you want to avoid the buses. Big shopping centre nearby. Great showers and great breakfast. Negative things aside, it delivered what we were looking for - a great night in Rio for New years.

Liked: The place is very lively but they make a point of turning things off at 11pm if you want to sleep. There is nice local artwork on the walls and the rooms are comfy and well aired. There is a pool table, table tennis, video lounge, a climbing wall! and wifi (though you have to pay a small charge to use it). They provide a very good breakfast and you can even get a tasty lunch and dinner prepared by the in-house cook for a small fee. The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, they make a point of remembering your name and will help with everything you ask. Highly recommended.

Liked: Loved that it was not in the busy backpacker neighborhoods of Copacabana & Ipanema but in the residential neighborhood of Botafogo. Great staff, and a social atmosphere, easy to meet other travelers. And you also meet Brazilians who are in transition - looking for an apartment, or in university, etc.

Liked: Homely and cosy atmosphere with great stuff. It is a place with character. One of the 6-bed female dorms has a view of Cordovana. The only downside is that some of the rooms are far away from the toilets, but everything else makes up for it. Greatly recommended!
