Liked: das fruehstueck war genial !!!jeden tag ein wechselndes gericht fuer normales geld. um die ecke gabs eine strasse zum ausgehen.ab24.00 war es wirklich still,staffs haben drauf geachtet.

Disliked: staffs kamen selbst nicht aus rio und hatten keine ahnung.wirkten manchmal etwas lustlos.zimmer mueffelte ein wenig und war nur gefegt.alle tueren der zimmer liessen sich nicht schliessen.das schlimmste aber waren die wc's eigentlich aus mangel immer besetzt .selbst nachts manchmal.

Liked: The breakfast was good and is replenished frequently. The dinners that the argentine chef serves up are tasty and great if you have come in late and haven´t got food to cook. The dog is also really cute and friendly.

Disliked: Some of the staff were offhand and not forthcoming with information on local sights. There was a lack of security, our dorm had a door that led down to the road which was never locked despite the specific request of another guy in our dorm. We stayed for 3 days and I never once got a hot or even warm shower. Meals and drinks are offered but at a cost. What annoyed us most was that we couldn´t use the kitchen between 6 and 9pm. We appreciated that their chef needed to cook but as travellers on a budget we couldn´t afford the food they put on each night . On one night we were forced to sign up for the dinner they provided simply because there was no space for us to cook the food we had got from the supermarket.

Liked: Great atmosphere, location was good with nice view of sugar loaf when leaving the hostel, quality of food that is served on a nightly basis was good and it was also cheap.

Disliked: the room that I stayed in was not clean, which is the biggest letdown, as I found out that there were insects in my bed when I woke up in the morning

Liked: Friendly staff, Nice lounge area with a good bar, and a lot of other travellers. Excellent and cheap offers for dinner. The location is close to the metro, but pretty far from the beach.

Disliked: The 12 female room was really packed and very hot. For the luggage lockers you needed to buy your own lock at a shop.

Liked: The people were great! Loved the staff and they even offered to come out around the city with us and get to know us. Tons of wonderful guests and plenty of opportunities to meet other people. Very laid back atmosphere! Loved it!

Disliked: Cold showers on the first floor

Liked: Lovely staff, Reallllllly good breakfast and dinner, met lots of nice people which is great if your travelling alone.

Disliked: The room was a little cramped but the downstairs area was big enough to have space and relax.

Liked: The caiperinhas and the staff that gave us a nice tip about a place to go.

Disliked: There were only 5 bathrooms for nearly a 100 people. And only 2 showers had hot water. There was only 1 seperate toilet and no seperate sink, so if you wanted to brush your teeth or really needed to go to the toilet, you had to wait for a shower to get free. Bathrooms were also dirty, there was vomit in there 2 times.

Disliked: far too few bathrooms, dorms tiny, my drying clothes on a clotheshorse were thrown into a heap of dirt outside, ruining them.

Liked: The location is very good if you want a quiet neighborhood with very good transportation system to the touristic areas.The free airport transfer is a great money saver (they offer it if you stay more than 3 nights)

Liked: The breakfast here is AMAZING! Scrambled eggs, ham and cheese toasties, watermelon, pineapple, mango juice, papaya juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chocolate cake, lemon cake, creme brulee, herb bread balls, biscuits etc. If I went to Rio again though I would chose to stay in a better location. Botofogo is located in between the city and the beach so no matter where you want to go you have to travel somewhere. In this case I would have stayed by Copacobana, Ipanema or Santa Teresa (a cute little suburb located on a hill near the main attractions). The price for a bus or train ticket is the same no matter the distance travelling.Also the rooms have triple bunks. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a dorm with a locked door and only double bunks (this is a good thing if you are scared of heights!). Also the rooms are REALLY REALLY hot. Almost hotter than outside. Even with the fans everyone in the room would wake up in pools of sweat! It was really unpleasant.The staff are really helpful and nice. They help to organise tours to the favelas, parties and sight seeing tours, although they are quite expensive.The BBQ night on Fridays is SO GOOD!

Liked: This hostel is great for meeting people, the breakfast is also very nice. The staff are really really helpful and give really good advice. Bad points are there is no aircon and the rooms are actually hotter than outside. It was 31 degress at night where we were there so you can imagine how hard to was to sleep. Also the cleanliness of the bathrooms was really poor. There is also lack of bathrooms for the amount of people staying in the hostel. I ended up waiting for the bathrooms for about 15mins everytime.There is also a problem with the lockers - there are situated under the beds and are not very secure at all.I would advise you to go to this hostel if you want to meet people, we started our travelling in this hostel straight from UK and it was abit of a culture shock. But the staff are very very helpful especially Danny xxxx

Liked: In Botafogo, a suburb - not fully in the action, but able to get metro and buses easily. Located in between beaches (Copacobana/Ipenema) and the centre which is quite good. Bathrooms old fashioned. Bedrooms quite cramped, 3 bunk beds x2. Good breakfast - toasted cheese & ham, juice, cake, french breadBar and nightly dinner optionsOffers full range of toursOverall good option if you dont need luxury

Liked: Good location with views of Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. However you arrive (bus or air) , there is free pick up, free breakfast (they have eggs!) and a free caipirinha your first night! The staff is friendly and fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The hostel is on a major bus route but there is no vehicular noise. The hostel has a nice chill vibe which gets a little samba funk-y later on. It's the hostel to hang out at or get a recommendation for night time activities around town.
