Liked: Great location but very impersonal.

Disliked: Very impersonal, not very clean and you have to wear a tag the whole time you are staying there.

Liked: The location was fantastic, the staff were helpful and friendly and overall the 6 bed dorm I stayed in was clean. However, I did hear other guest complaining about how dirty their room was during their stay.

Disliked: The price for 1 bed in a 6 bed dorm was extortionate. I paid >$135 for one night admittingly it was during the carnival period and usually the hostels only take block bookings of 5 days minimum. So I was lucky to get a room for 1 night during this period, nevertheless, the price was way to exspensive. The other thing the hostel lacked was a common shared area or organised social events. So if you are travelling alone and would like to meet others to socialise, this ghostel might not be the best place for that.

Liked: Good staff, funny, friendly, speak english, spanish and portugese. Meet heaps of people and have great time. Close to Ipinema beach, like 1 minute walk. Great tours at reasonable prices. Awesome bar and drtinks + meal specials Fun event every night pre planned

Disliked: Having to change rooms Wifi is terrible, slow and have to be near the bar/reception to use it.

Liked: Quase tudo perfeito!

Disliked: O único problema foi a confusão de camas e quartos (troca e incerteza das acomodações de cada um)... não sei se por parte da equipe ou dos próprios hospedes. Além disso, algumas informações no anuncio do site estão erradas, os quartos tem 12 camas (misto) e as toalhas só são disponibilizadas através de pagamento.

Liked: Its in a great area, super safe and close to the beach, and restaurants and bars in Ipanema. It is clean and good that each room has an ensuite but when you're in a dorm of 10 1 ensuite is not really enough.

Disliked: Its very expensive, a dorm of 10 is more than a private room in most places, but perhaps thats just Rio. The kitchen can only be used before 6pm and you're getting in the way of their kitchen staff who are preparing food for the bar. Also as theres a bar you cant bring your own alcohol in, which is a pain when you're on a budget. Also the second room we were in was really hot, A/C didnt really work.

Liked: breakfast was pretty good

Disliked: while I had a comfortable sleep in a comfortable and quiet room both nights of my stay, the place definitely comes off as a party hostel . . . one very strange thing: when I first arrived (it was in the evening), they gave me a bracelet for re-entry, like the ones you get at a rock concert! I laughed at them when they first proposed this, but kept it on, just in case they were serious . . . it turned out that it was not so important so I didn't follow this protocol the second day (each room had a key-card, so this managed the security). The other thing is that the location: it is somewhat far from Gen. Osario station (where more of the cooler bars and restos happen to be) . . . another thing: some friends of mine were staying closer to Osario station at what seemed to be a smaller, more cozy hostel, for less money. So, bottom line: there is nothing wrong with Legarto, but one could probably do better

Liked: One block of the beach

Disliked: The place is noyse by day and night with the bar next to the hostel, that's pretty disgusting when you try to sleep. Everything else is good!

Liked: Staff are top-notch! Very friendly which helps to make everyone feel at home. 2 minutes walk to the beach, close to restaurants / bars and bank.

Disliked: Kitchen was a bit dirty.

Liked: The stuff was totally friendly and helpful and even joined us in the evnings. The beddings were changed daily. Another great point is that the stuff spoke English, which is rare in Brazil (even in Rio).

Disliked: Well it could be a bit more clean, espececially the shared bathrooms. But on the other hand, it is a hostel, not the the Hilton.

Liked: Its just an average hostel hence nothing of note

Disliked: What they charge when you check in is not the same as the quoted price on hostelbookers; this is because they charge in USD then convert to Reals using an old ex-rate. In addition, they charge an extra 5 Reals for internet, not much but few other hostels charge

Liked: It was the most perfect end to an eight month trip. Met amazing people, staff were awesome and frankly I don't want to go home!!! So close to the beach, just a shame it rained the whole time I was there. Didn't dampen the party spirit though!! Amazing place, book it now!!!

Liked: good breakfast and good rooms with aircon, bar is a little pricey but theres a cool british pub right next door thats much better value

Disliked: they have a stupid mandatory 5R charge when you check in to use the internet....even if you dont want to use it, you still have to pay. why is this charge just not included in the price of the room! stupid system, just another exapmle of how people dont know how to run a hostel in the che lagarto chain.

Liked: Location is great right near the beach, hostel is clean, good bar downstairs. Staff are okay but not overly friendly.

Disliked: The kitchen is only open for guest use between 3-6pm and even then you are made to feel that you´re not meant to be in there. With Rio being so expensive, we were planning to cook as much as possible to save cash, no such luck. Also they add on a R$5 charge for internet use to your bill, whether you want to use it or not.

Liked: Brilliant hostel, great location with a good breakfast. Rooms were clean and spacious and there was lots going on to get involved with if you wanted to. The ONLY downside to this hostel is a particlur member of staff who is both rude and unhelpful. There is clearly a problem with the booking system as my boyfriend and I were put into different rooms, I was put in a 10 man dorm and was the only girl! This I can get over but (and I don't usually name and shame) the blonde girl on reception was so rude and unhelpful. When we asked on our third night if any other beds had become available so we could be togther she SHOUTED no and acted like we were absolute idiots. She then failed to tell me I was meant to be switching rooms(still not with my bf), I only found out through another staff member while enquiring about a day trip!!! Other friends found the blonde to be equally unhelpful and she spent most of her time on facebook. Such a shame as everyone else is the hostel was so lovely! I highly recommend this hostel but avoid the blonde! Definitely do the city tour, it's brilliant!

Disliked: The particular member of staff as mentioned. Also the security isnt great, anyone can come in.

Liked: Nice location.

Disliked: After staying in over 100 hostels traveling for a year, this was the worst experience of all. Coming back in the middle of night to find they had given my bed to someone else and made me stay in a different room with no belongings. Absolutely DISGRACEFUL - DON'T STAY HERE!

Liked: Really good atmosphere and very friendly clientele.

Disliked: Teh booking system is an absolute joke. I stayed there for a total of 12 nights and stayed in 5 different rooms where I had to keep moving as they mucked my booking up.
