Liked: The place is wonderful! It was the best holidays we've ever had. If you want to experience Brasil we recomend this hostel very much. It is situated in a national park so that you can take a walk in the jungle, jump into waterfalls and beautiful beaches are about 50km from there too. For us it was much better than our stay in Rio de Janeiro the following days. Best of all however is the family owning the place. Thank you so much once more ;-)

Liked: I came as a stranger and left a as a friend. Gina, Luis Miguel and Edwina were just so incredibly hospitable. It was like being part of the family.

Disliked: I misunderstood the distance from Rio de Janeiro city! I was travelling without a guide book, hence had no idea that there was also a province called Rio de Janeiro! I was using an antiquated computer to do the booking, very slow and pretty useless, hence didn't read all the info available. So the travelling distance surprised me. Although the directions from Gina were spot on!

Liked: If you are looking for something different, this is it. Great fun, Great time, absolutely relaxing and exciting ! Great location to escape from city noise and traffic. The hostel is surrounded by river and you see the great view of mountains just infront of you. Excellent hospitality and cosy and friendly atomoshphere. We enjoyed kayakking, trekking, meeting local people, having brazillian meals with the family and doing nothing! waterfalls to see and Beautiful nature and animals to explore. reminds you what you are.

Disliked: Hard to find the location and was not clearly indicated on the website (at the time of booking)how to get there. But it should not stop you getting there, It is worth visiting!

Liked: Loved it!!!! The Island Hostel is our official home away from home in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I arrived sick with strep throat and sick of Rio (the city). The owners (mom and dad) took me to the doctor, gave us a comfortable and cozy home, provided home-cooked meals and delicious pizza, and showed us all the cool places to go around Sana. The hostel is located on a natural preserve with limited communication and transportation services, so pay CLOSE attention to details about how to arrive there. But, once you get there it´s like paradise, surrounded by gorgeous mountains and beautiful waterfalls just a van ride away. If you´re looking for a natural retreat, with a river 10 meters from the house, opportunities for river tubing, kayaking, and good company, go to the Island Hostel!
