Liked: good location by metro and buses plus supermarket and shopping centre. closer to christ and sugar loaf then ipanema. cable tv and sofas and staff very knowledgable and friendly in general.

Disliked: kitchen was closed on sunday because someone had moaned on hostelbookers about it being messy on one sunday, i think the cleaners are off that day but a dirty kitchen is better then no kitchen! booked a twin room but were put in a tiny room with 2 bunk beds, very expensive for what it was but thats rio i guess. BEWARE: Football Match tickets bought from any hostel in Rio includes transport to and from the stadium for 70 Reals (80 in some hostels) but tickets are only 20 Reals face value! you can get the metro there and get seated tickets for 40 reals yourself or the standing for 20 at the stadium.

Liked: We stayed in Carnaval, so the price was 5 times more than what it is normally.The staff are amazing, and the owners were very personable and even though they were very busy during carnaval, they went beyond expectation to make sure that our honeymoon was special.They also have a B&B in Petropolis which is a lovely place to stay too.

Liked: The staff were absolutely amazing - I have never stayed in a hostel or hotel where when I left I said goodbye individually to each member of staff! They were so friendly and helpful and very accommodating. I almost want to go back to Rio just to stay there again!! Was also great for meeting other people. It was during carnival so obviously everyone was up for partying but even the trips we could book for the hostel were a great way of gathering a bunch of people together. Fantastic.

Liked: Really great friendly welcome from the staff, free beer was appreciated! There was a mix up with my room, 6 bed instead of 4, but this was rectified quickly and I recieved and upgrade to aircon. Such a shame the rooms don't have windows as I ended up with a cold by the end of my trip. I expect this is usually a chilled out hostel but due to carnival week it was busy and loud but lots of fun.

Liked: We had a great stay, we even got upgraded to a smaller room with A/C which was amazing, great location & the staff went out of their way to be helpful, best hostel staff we´ve come across on our travels. Thanks guys for a great week!

Liked: Rio is an expensive place, so we looked for somewhere cheap, and it turned out to be quite nasty. The staff tried their best, by being friendly and upbeat, and providing a nice breakfast, but this was one of the worst places I stayed in 8 months of travel through south america on a budget.The rooms are tiny, with no windows unless you count the hole in the wall onto the coridor, there is no space to put rucksacks, no lockers in the rooms. The 4bed and 6bed dorms are probably worse than the 20bed dorm. They are tiny, very dark, smell damp, and only have a useless fan or airconditioner that didnt work properly. We had the fan on constantly just trying to get some fresher air into the room. The first 2 nights I couldnt sleep it was so claustrophobic. Luckily the dorms werent full or I would definately have paid more to move. The bathrooms have mould growing in the showers. I think there may be bed bugs because it was pretty itchy trying to sleep there.

Liked: This was a super friendly hostel and both travellers and staff were all very sociable. The staff were all so super friendly and helpful.I couldnt quite tell the difference between staff and guests at first as the staff dont wear a uniform & seem to always be there & using the internet etc (even when they arent working? - Im not sure). But even if they were not working they were still always willing to help. The property itself wasnt so impressive. My room was only big enough for the double bed and one table and nothing else. It also had no window to the outside, only a small high window into the hallway. I had picked the hostel as it was implied on the website that you can do your own washing there with their washing machine and dryer, but when I got there they insisted they have to do the washing (at a BRL $20 - 40 depending on size). There is a dryer but if you dont like your clothes dried in a dryer there is only one tiny clotheshorse/clotheline shared between all guests.The property's common areas were stinking hot (in November!) with not much air circulation, and no ceiling fans (although I had A/C in my room).The 'Kitchen' is more like a fridge, and a sink with a tiny preparation area that is normally filled with dishes. The oven works but is very old and slow to cook or even boil water.I stayed here 5 nights and did consider changing hostels but it DID have its good points and the staff were the great!!Later when I returned to Rio I stayed in the next suburb in a much more civilised hostel for a cheaper price.

Liked: Originially booked for 2 days but ended up staying for a week because I loved it in Rio and the hostel. Very friendly staff who made the stay very pleasant. Thanks guys. Proximity to the beach and bars were the only negative.

Liked: I can honestly say nothing. That is the first time i've ever felt this negatively about a hostel and feel compeled to say how misleading the hostel rating was

Liked: Staff was mostly very helpful and friendly and the location was exellent! Rooms were bit too small and the breakfast was below average compared to another hostels around Brazil.

Liked: I liked leaving in the knowledge I would not have to come back. The place lacked any style and grace whatsoever. Stay here if you like the thought of a windowless room, stale breakfast and that 'youth club - vibe' that appeals to children but should not appeal to travellers.
