Liked: Terrace with nice view, room has its own fridge and gas stove...other than that: you get what you pay for.

Disliked: English is not a much spoken languge in Brazil...this hostel is no different.

Liked: The staffs are so helpful and polite. The price is quite good.

Disliked: The room was not so clean, sometimes the maid forgot to lock the door after cleaning. The location was not quite easy to get. They had the kitchen but it was impossible to use because it ran out of the gas fuel, and they didn't change for a new one.

Liked: Peaceful, quiet, tranquil, comfortable bed, decent shower. Close to Lapa and airport. A nice change from the touristy Copacabana scene.

Disliked: Average breakfast, mosquitoes in room, walk down to Lapa is close however the uphill home is difficult. There are buses right near the hostel however they shake so much on the way there and back they will definately give you a headache. No tour companies would pick us up from this hostel.... we had to make our own way to other hostels.

Liked: It was very cheap, especially in Rio. I booked a single room and ended up having a dorm and a double bed all to myself! Buses at the bottom of the road go everywhere so easy to get to the main places of interest. The location was quiet and chilled, which was what I needed and the area was very quaint.

Disliked: The walk down to the buses and back up is very long and winding - if you're out late it doesn't feel too safe walking up the hill, though the hostel is very safe.

Liked: Excellent facilities, great owner (Paul is a top fella!), great staff, great place, not in central Rio but still a really nice area and everyone will go out of their way to make your stay even better. Cannot fault it!

Disliked: Only (very) minor gripe is you gotta travel to get anywhere (and you will get lots of help and guidance on where you want to go), but that is half the fun of going somewhere new and exploring!

Disliked: No AC! This should be listed in the property description but is not. Light in bathroom didn't work. Inconvenient location.

Liked: Yan and Lucila made our stay an absolute joy. Even when we had a couple of small issues due to freakishly heavy rain they both did everything within their power to help us and to solve the issues. This is a fantastic hostel in a really nice, safe neighborhood. The bar and terrace overlooking the city is amazing. Breakfast is good, atmosphere at the bar (thanks to Yan) is also great fun.

Disliked: Interior of rooms are a little bit run down, but makes for a rustic, bohemian aesthetic.

Liked: Friendly and helpful staff, and good views over rio, however rooms are pretty basic- No ventilation, run down, and uncomfortable bedding. That said, it would be difficult to find much better in rio for the same price

Liked: The cheapest place I have stayed in Rio, Value for money. We only stayed one night so I dont have that much.

Disliked: Maybe the madress was a bit hard, but thats pretty much it.

Liked: The English owner Paul was very helpful when we had problems booking a flight. He really went out of his way to help us, which we really appriciated. The bar/breakfats area is very beautiful and they are currently doing work to expand it.

Disliked: Our room smelt a little but one soon gets used to it. We were also here in the middle of summer and the fan did little to cool the 30C+ temperatures. The location was a little difficult to get to however it meant it was away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Liked: Quiet place with nice views from the deck, breakfast better than most hostels, very friendly staff. Paul is doing his utmost to help people staying at his hostel. He is a great guy. Peter was also very helpful. Not the closest place to the tourists attractions but if I had stayed in a more central place I may have missed Santa Teresa, bonde, and other things close to the area, which are not to be missed in Rio. Not cheap, but since Rio is awfully overpriced is it not a bad compromise.

Disliked: The building is run down and cries for substantial face lifting. The kitchen is so shabby you'll stay away even if you need it. The absence on air conditioning must be felt during the peak of Rio's summer. The ceiling fan is of some help, though.

Liked: Lots of character, not in the centre but with good transport links. English owner can help you with how to get around etc. Nice bathroom. Breakfast served on nice patio terraced area. Very good value for money,

Disliked: No real problems. Some people would maybe like it to be a bit closer to the centre - it's up a bit of a hill and not in a particularly touristy place.

Liked: I loved it all:- amazingly helpful staff - the owner Paul has done magnificently well offering help with phones, internet, sports activities, samba clubs, dining and luggage storage and delivery to the airport after two further weeks of backpacking around Brasil - terrace with great breakfast and in-house parties- the apartment for 6 people was a great value for money- perfect location in the genuine old Portuguese district with the bonde/ tram being a commuting requirement not like a tourist attraction

Disliked: Everything was perfect, seriously! Absolutely loved it and would not change a thing! Of course, if you;re looking for a posh hotel, this is not the place for you.
