Liked: Close to Copacabana beach Breakfast was ok

Liked: Tha staff is very friendly and helpful. They make you feel good. It's a very goog location (near Ipanema Beach and many buses and metro)

Disliked: The rooms are not so nice, bathrooms often out of order, wifi doesn't always work correcty

Disliked: i would say that in the morning i wanted to leave the hostel asap and in the night i didnt want to come back. dirty, uncomfortable, unfriendly. advice: for this price you can find smth WAY better.

Liked: The staff is very helpful and friendly, they make me feel at home, The hostel is located very close to the beach,I felt secure walking by my own at night. The metro is really close and it is easy to get to the touristic points. The hostel is clean and they have a very nice terrace. I met only nice and friendly people!

Liked: Its such a lovely hostel, they help me with tours for all the city.... its very close to the beach, all the transport in the city, in the heart of Copacabana! The staff is cool and help everyone 24hs, its amazing! Def coming back to stay here again! Relly cool area for the breakfast, the bed was very confortable and clean. Rio is great, but Barao Copa Hostel made it perfection! Free internet is awesome too :)

Liked: Nothing maybe the location

Disliked: It was dirty, small rooms, not organized (They put 7 people in a room of 6 beds) and told us to move other people's things when we told them that there are too many people in the room. Most of the staff don't speak english, they were not helpful. When we first came they didn't know about our reservation on hostel bookers, didn't know that we already paid 10% online, and told us a different (and higher) price.

Liked: ot's cheap and location is good

Disliked: rooms are so small you can't really fit in there... they put 6 beds in a place where there is no room for more that 4 people (being really optimistic about space optimisation)

Liked: Really nice (and clean) room, good communal bathrooms, friendly staff, good value for money

Disliked: a little bit away from the main Copcabana area (still only a 10 minute walk to to beach though!) but the cheaper price more than makes up for this

Liked: The staff and other visitors ive met in the hostel were really nice and fun and helpfull, compared to other hostels in Rio its a clean place, with a nice little "openair-roof" area with palms for enjoying drinks, food and a nice chat. The hostel is located close to copacabana-beach, and to a metro station, so getting arround is really easy. i felt safe and if i need a hostel in Rio i would always choose Barao. Did i mention its cheap? :)

Disliked: hm.. nothing really, i was happy with this hostel, no bad surprices.

Liked: I stayed at Barao Copa during carnival, and it was great! The staff was very helpful and sweet, especially Klayton - they were very good at arranging tours etc. and I met a lot of great people there. Overall I had an awesome stay at Barao Copa! I would go there again...

Liked: Not much, after nine months travelling this was probably the worst hostel we had stayed in.

Disliked: Do not stay here! We booked an apartment at Barao Copa Hostel using Hostelworld in March 2011. On arrival at the hostel at approximately 6pm we checked in. A member of staff said they would check to see if our room was ready, this seemed strange as check out time was hours before we arrived, surely all rooms should be ready by 6pm. We seen a cleaner come down the stairs and ten minutes later were shown to a room once they left. We walked through the reception/tv area to a door at the back of reception, off the communal area which looked like a cupboard door under the stairs. This was supposed to be our apartment! Inside was a double bed, a small tv, a fan (which was plugged into a socket hanging out of the wall, the wiring in the room was extremely dangerous) and air-con. We had booked a room which was supposed to have en-suite, kitchen facilities etc. After I complained and asked for my money back they eventually said that Hostelbookers had made a mistake. Bulls@&t! They only said this after I had seen the room, they would have happily taken my $180 if I hadn't complained. They did offer me a discount of $80 which I accepted as it was late and I didn't fancy walking around Copacabana late at night looking for another place to stay. As there have been reviews of a similar nature it appears that they either overbook rooms (and put the last person to arrive in the cupboard under the stairs), or an apartment doesn't actually exist and this room is what they class as an apartment. I would not recommend this place to anyone, I appreciate their attempt to rectify the problem which they caused but that is not sufficient when they try to put you into a cupboard as a last resort. I made a mistake by not reading all of the negative reviews, please do not make the same mistake.

Liked: nothing at all.

Disliked: this was the worst hostel i have ever stayed at. no doors on the dorms terrible conditions soiled mattress. lazy and rude staff. u had to pay for eveing extra... internet/washing/water/local phonecalls terrible breakfast no soap to wash in any toilet. cramped conditions in dorms and stairs and toilets. never visit this place!

Liked: the best hostel that i am already stay, the staff its so friends, the klayton help me so much. with everything, the Rosa Maria now all places for the night.

Liked: Rooms are clean as well as the facilities. Staff are so friendly and accomodating. It seems we are friends for a long time. Location is safe and secure. Internet is fast and lobby is so refreshing & relaxing.

Disliked: Only late service of the breakfast.

Liked: Location, really close to Copocabana Beach; Staff, when not pre-occupied playing on the internet, were very useful and friendly.

Disliked: As mentioned this is probably unfair, but we asked for a twin room, my travel buddy had a bad cold and she was coughing all night, which meant dorms were out of the question. We were shown to what can only be described as a prison cell; bunk beds, where three were stacked in a row; only two were useable! There was a fan, but apart from the beds, no room for anything else, chair, shelf, anything! There was one socket that worked, the other had wires hanging out of it. The alley from the street to the room was dark, (as the light had blown, apparently) and barely enough room to turn sideways, never mind trying to get luggage in. The showerroom, while private, had freezing cold water, unsuitable curtain and tray, which meant the tiny room was like a swimming pool post shower, the room was mouldy, unclean and frankly disgusting. We were never shown around the rest of the facilities and when my friend complained, the staff said, 'nothing to do with us, we are just front desk' and that 'they had received many complaints before' but still marketed the room! I cant speak for the rest of the property, just dont ask for the twin room, or go & see it first!

Disliked: It was very small and squashed and way over priced for what was on offer. 30 reais more for a window in the room.
