Liked: Las habitaciones son amplias, con balcón y hermosa vista al centro de Río. Todo es muy limpio y prolijo.

Disliked: El desayuno no era a elección. Había que esperar que lo sirvieran una hora. Luego era cafe, sandwich, yogurth, huevo frito y 2 frutas.

Liked: The views both at day and night exceeded my expectations. Initially hard to find, but once we explored the area we were surprised at how close it was to transport hubs! There is a nice mixture of street art, flora and fauna, and picturesque buildings. The buses where frequent and the famous yellow tram is very close and convenient. The steps of Lapa are a short walk away. If you can, definitely walk around and explore the nooks and crannies of the area. The area lacks good places to eat, and what can be found is expensive. The hostel is opposite a nice museum ruin, where you can see Sugar Loaf Mountain. The Staff are extremely helpful and trustworthy. The surrounding area also feels secure. You can hear the different birds and the music from around Lapa. It's a DOG FREE environment and the CATS keep their distance!

Disliked: Cold showers. Bathroom cubicles were too small. Insufficient toilet paper. Breakfast is VERY POOR in both variety and quality! Overall the place needs a good makeover! It is clear that the rooms which are rarely used, are not cleaned as often, so bring wipes. It's really isn't a 5 minute walk from Lapa, it's about 20 minutes and 8 minutes by Taxi.

Liked: One guy on staff was very helpful (forget his name). Views were excellent and only a short walk to restaurants and lively bars. Much nicer atmosphere than Copa/Ipanena. Felt relatively safe in the area.

Disliked: Room wasn't that clean, room and bathroom (in private room) both smelt very mouldy. Internet didn't work until we fixed it (temporarily). Our room was upgraded but then they tried to charge us the extra amount.

Liked: Big spacious dorms, amazing views over the city and can´t beat the location for the nightlife. Santa Theresa and Lapa have a much better atmosphere then Ipanema and Cococabana and it´s far more fun to party with Brazilians rather than tourists! The beaches are easily accessible via the metro. The breakfasts here are huge and Elizabeth who works here never stopped being incredibly helpful.

Disliked: They seem a little disorganised and a couple of people had some minor misunderstandings with bookings while we were there so worth clarifying what you have booked but it never caused a major problem and everyone always got a bed. Surprised about the comments about bed bugs as didn´t hear anyone complain but we were given brand new sheets along with everyone else when we arrived so that might have been why. We´ve put the price at average but only because it went from 35 Reas a night to 130 for the carnival which hurts but it was still cheaper then elsewhere

Liked: My stay in Terra Brasilis Hostel was surprisingly pleasant. The rooms are spacious and the house is beautiful. The staff is very friendly and creates a great atmosphere.

Disliked: To go to the beach need to take the underground or bus, but at night the fun is just a few steps (Lapa, Santa Teresa), So is not necessary something bad because in Rio is better to go to a distant part of the day than at night.

Liked: Santa Teressa is a great location for a hostel if you want to chill out at the end of a hectic Rio day and then spend time in Lapa or Santa Terresa. The Hostel itself was very chilled out and homely with a bohemian feel- not a party hostel but attracts cool easy going people up for a laugh. The hostel is old and naturally air conditioned, with huge open terraces and windows- great views of Centro even from the shower.

Disliked: Bed Bugs!! found 2 huge bed bugs in my bed on my 2nd morning and was covered in bite marks for about 1 week- not a great start to trip. However the removed the mattress and cleaned the area throughly and addressed it as a problem. Breakfast was sometimes not very fresh but they serve good coffee and juice Activities around Rio could have been promoted a bit better, that extra level of service and a White Board with things to do each day or recommendations would have been the icing on the cake.

Liked: I liked the building itself. It is a beautiful structure that overlooks Lappa. Here, you get nature and the city. I also liked that the rooms had big windows that remained open all day. The rooms remained cool and you felt like you were a bit more in touch with nature.

Disliked: I disliked the location. While Santa Teresa is a beautiful and historic area, Terra is located high up in the mountain. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the nearest metro. This was less than ideal.

Liked: Gorgeous views of the city. Dorm room was spacious and well ventilated. Free wifi. Breakfast always had fantastic juices.

Disliked: Got mugged a block away when I was walking home from a neighbourhood bar at night with two other people, so the location is probably less safe than a more touristy area like the beaches, despite first impressions. Staff mostly didn't speak much English and were easily frustrated by my very limited Portuguese. They didn't provide basic information like where all the bathrooms/common spaces were, and with a couple of exceptions they all seemed to have a very weird attitude. Breakfast was brought to the table rather than serve-yourself, which was nice, but the food itself was variable: sometimes there were eggs and ham, sometimes you would see other people getting eggs and ham but none would be given to you, sometimes it was just stale bread and cheese. Bathrooms were not up to scratch. Cold showers, leaking taps, shower curtains and plastic screens on toilets were completely falling apart and needed to be replaced. Kitchen was also unclean with cockroaches running around and staff leaving their food out for hours before cleaning up.

Liked: Wonderful view and great people! The owner is so nice and friendly. She really made me feel welcome. I wish I could haved stayed longer. I liked that they had laundry and beverages for sale onsite, as well as all the different outdoor seating areas...the hammock on the balcony was great for reading.

Liked: not much.

Disliked: this place isn't anywhere near as nice in the flesh as it is in the photos. mould on the walls. bugs in the bed. cold showers. there is no bar, therefore no free caipirinha on arrival! they have 1 small washing machine which they charge 20 Reais ($15) per load!!!!!!!!!!!! no yoga.tai chi or massage services either. it baffles us as to how this hostel received an award for atmosphere.. it was a ghost town! no one is ever around, no music or noise at all. we were greeted by the cleaner who didn't speak a word of english and had to wait for someone to get there who understood us. . no exotic birds or monkeys... just a few stray cats roaming around. breafast is average. staff are average (when they are there). this place is average.
