Liked: There is an Irish bar underneath the hostel..What more do you want? The owner, upon hearing there was an astonishingly good looking Irish man (moi of course) frequenting his establishment, insisted in sharing an irish whisey with me. Not wanting to dampen his enthusiasm, I agreed. He returned two minutes later with what can only be described as two pints of Jameson!!! We are now happily married.....nice views in the hostel over the streets, good party atmosphere. I somehow slept lie a baby in the dorms. However, I put this down to a combination of voluminous amounts of Jameson (see above) and my suspicions of a gas leak...which definitely aided my nights sleep...

Disliked: nice communal toilets...however, some bacpacers need coaching on how to use them...lets just say there was some erratic aiming at best...

Liked: Perfect place to stay during Carnaval! Lapa Rocks!!! Right in the eye of the storm that is carnaval!! Great friendly, party atmosphere. Excellent value during this period, We had an amzing time at Samba Villa, Rio is a wonderful place!!!

Disliked: Lockers could be better. Not a complaint just a suggestion.

Liked: Great hostel if you are easy going and looking for a fun time in Rio! This hostel is located in what at first seems to be a very sketchy area, but once you get used to Rio's atmosphere you feel right at home. Good hostel, nice staff, nice people, good price. If you are under 40 and dont mind a tiny bathroom then this hostel will be a fun place for you to stay.

Liked: Great location for the Lapa jump up. otherwise not much going on during the week. A nice chilled vibe.

Liked: Literally right in the heart of the Friday night action, which is very useful for toilet stops and replenishing cash reserves. Don't expect any sleep. The place is LOUD, especially if there are aussies there, which no doubt there always is....Just a room to crash in rather that get a taxi back to copacabana. Perfect for fridat, wouldn't stay any longer!

Liked: not only is the hostel cheap its great quality the staff are really friendly and the area is transformed on thursday friday and saturday night with heaps of locals,and tourists joining in on the street parties that only exists in lapa no where else in rio so that was cool. they have a cool irish pub in the hostel , that had really good food,great to chill and have a beer and watch the match!i fully recommend it

Liked: Location, staff and bar. SV is located in Lapa and is next door to Semente a hangout for the best musicians in BRAZIL ! Lapa is the heart and soul of Rio, the music and night life district . Staff are well informed helpful and full of great suggestions that are not just listed in your lonely planet guide. Great bar, cheap drinks, live music, dj nights and great atmosphere ! Yep... I loved it.

Liked: It was in an excellent location. On friday night, the street below was full with people in Lapa - it was ideal if you wanted to get a taste of Rio on the weekend. the staff were incredible - they were from all over the world so conversing was no problem, and it also meant that they give us cheap alternatives to doing the really expensive things in Rio (and where to avoid so we did not get mugged). Arriving by day there was a bit nerve racking because it looked a bit dodgy, but the whole area came alive and looked fantastic at night. I will definitely stay here again.
