Liked: The hostel itself is really secure, two coded doors to get in, and plenty of lockers for the dorms. Atmosphere is nice and the garden/courtyard area is a good place to relax. Right near to the cultural centre and Dragao square which is a really good place to go eat and drink until the early hours. I went during the world cup, and everywhere else I stayed in Brazil had at least tripled they're prices. This place was still really cheap though.

Disliked: A fair walk to the beach, and perhaps not the safest surrounding roads. I was mugged one night walking home from Dragao square even though the walk is only about 1 minute. So I recommend getting a taxi despite the short distance, or travelling in crowds. There is no front desk at the hostel and the lady who runs the place is not always easy to find, and she doesn't speak much English. She was very friendly though.

Liked: We liked the athmosphere but the garden and the kitchen were a bit shabby .

Disliked: We didn't like the aspect that they don't allow you to stay in the common area after 10 PM, and there is no other place to chill out at night and chatting.

Liked: The room was spacious and clean. Maria is very helpful and there's a notice board with information on where to go and how to get there. The kitchen is well equipped. The common areas were really good for meeting other travelers. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay there and felt very safe in the hostel and found it had a relaxing vibe.

Disliked: The area was not so great for a female solo traveler as it is not safe to go out alone after dark. However, there were lots of people there when I stayed and so you should be OK to go out in groups. Also, the lack of safety at night is not uncommon in large Brazilian cities!

Liked: Close proximity to the bus station

Disliked: Where to begin? Beds aren't comfortable & extremely rickety. There are no window panes or curtains on the doors thus you are woken by sunshine/noise at dawn. Toilet paper isn't included. Dorm is left open. Wifi is temperamental. The "garden area"/kitchen is shabby with rats running around. This place is cheap, yes, but there's a reason for that

Liked: Good value at Ceara. we had a private double room with bathroom. clean.with fan and access to kitchen facilities. helpful staff

Disliked: there are three doors to enter the hostel which is a measure for security. it is not the greatest location, and you have to walk to get to the the seafront and the market. again, for what you pay,

Liked: Hostel is very close to Dragao do Mar, and center of the city. Price I paid was super good for this city.

Disliked: Weird vibe, nothing really going on, reception does not really exist, when you arrive it takes time for someone to come and open the door for you. Man bathroom has motion sensor that turns off in the worst time... than you have to get out of the stall and wave in the dark...
