Liked: Really friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Good ´place to have relax and have fun with other travellers. The beach nearby is beautiful and you can take a boat from the jetty to ilhe campeche which is lovely. Good kitchen facilities to use and a supermarket next door. It is easy to get the bus from outside the hostel to other parts of the island.

Liked: The staff is really friendly, they have a nice tv with a lot of English tv channels, it is close to the beach 15 min,by foot and close to 2 supermarkets.

Disliked: They only cashmachine is 1,5 hour by bus (incl. waiting time for the bus) Bring enough money with you, the supermarkets accept debit cards and the hostel should do it too but the machine was broken when we where there. So if you do not want to go twice to the cashmachine by bus like we did.. bring enough money for everything.

Liked: If you are the type of traveler who prefers get to know the locals and their lives rather than party hard all night this is the perfect place for you (if not, head up north of the island). The owners are amazingly kind and this place has more the feel of a house than a hostel. I loved it. Also, it's right next to supermarket and bus stop so you don't have to carry your heavy backpack for long.

Liked: Best value place on the island, short walk from the beach, right next to shops. We arrived on the Sunday and got to join in on a family bbq... incredible food.

Liked: one of the nicest hostels i´ve stayed at in south america. i was sick virtually my whole time in florianopolis so the owners of the hostel drove me to the hospital and when i arrived back they gave me some of their own dinner. They also had a bbq a couple of days later and my freind and i ate till we could not move..it was delicious! a great place to stay nice chilled location, great staff, clean, well equiped kitchen!

Liked: We loved this place. Its at the south of the island which is less commercialied and quieter than the rest. ITs honestly more like a homestay than a hostel, the family are really nice especially pedro who will help u with anything u need with perfect english. Ideal for couples or people looking for a quiet relaxing stay

Liked: My family, including 2 kids, had a lovely stay at Retro House. The staff, expecially the longstay backpackers, were very helpful and friendly. It was a welcome refuge from the huge prices elsewhere over carnival, and the South of the island was really nice, with a community feel that isn´t as evident in the North. The kids were allowed to borrow the hostel´s boogie boards, which they very much appreciated. And we enjoyed the party for Jeffrey´s birthday too. THANKS guys!

Liked: I've been around and stayed in some great places but I think this may be the best. It locate in the south of the island away from the busy center you can walk to the buetiful fishermans beach in 2 minutes or to one of the best baches on the island in 5. The house and it's just a big hous, is run b a great women buy operated by those who have been there the longest everyone are trends and all are welcome if your going to be in florianopolis do yourself a favor and stay here. The only downside is you may end up livng there for months like James,Phil,& keko!

Liked: This hostel was great ! At 25 REAIS its probably the cheapest in florianopolis, the southern location is near lots of cool beaches and it has a chilled social atmosphere, we had a great BBQ with everyone, theres a supermarket next door, 5 mins to the beach, one of the best Bargains in Brazil, hostel ran by a nice family. You can visit lagoa etc on the bus, staying there would cost 50 REAIS a night !!!

Liked: Booked to stay 1 night and ended up staying 6. Great small hostel, like a family!! Bibi the owner was awesome and the location was perfect. Close to the most beautiful beaches on the island. We had a great time there.

Liked: Because the hostel is small it felt homely and is a good place to meet other travellers. The hostel is excellent value for money compared to others on Florianopolis. The only downside is security there are no lockers in dorms or safety deposit boxes and the hostel is open during the day.

Liked: I had an amazing time at Retro House. It was great place to meet people, the owner is wonderful-she makes you feel so at home there, she is really helpful, imformative and relaxed! It's in a nice location; really close to the supermarket, a quick walk to the beach and not too touristy. There is hiking and things around the area so there is lots to do! I had a fantastic time and would recommend it to everyone :)

Liked: Very intimate atmosphere, which makes the place great for meating people. Really friendly owner/manager (who speaks great English!). Feels like home.

Liked: It is important to know that this hostel isn't in florianopolis city, it is actually on the island. The bus from the bus terminal is definitely the best way to get there, a cab costs around 90 reis. It is also not currently completely set up as a hostel, but it is in a really great slightly more remote spot, very homely, great breakfast and showers, bibiana the owner is incredibly friendly as well. Great for an island getaway!
