The name 'Gulden Vlies' originates from the order of knights that was founded in 1430 by Filips de Goede in Bruges.
The house was build at the beginning of the 20th century and changed into a hotel in the 80's. You can find it in a nice lane with other stately mansions. The rooms have all been refurbished and are really nice and comfortable. We have chosen for a stylish combination of beige, aubergine and ebony wood together with antique wardrobes and a good eye for detail. Each room has its own bathroom with shower, washstand and toilet. There is a TV and a hairdryer in every room.
The superior rooms are spacious rooms with a refurbished bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. The superior rooms can be used as family rooms (up to 4 people).
Bruges is an open air museum. It doesn't look big on a map but there is so much to see : museums (Groeninge, Gruuthuuse, Saint John's Hospital...) offer a collection from the Middle Ages up to contemporary art. Churches: There are at least 10 churches: eg. Church of our Lady (with white marble Michelangelo statue). Breweries - Straffe Hendrik, with excellent beer tasting Chocolate museum, history, demonstration and tasting of chocolate New architecture: Concert Hall, Toyo Ito Pavilion, Coupure Bridge, Barge Bridge. Bruges didn't get stuck in history but wants to integrate modern architecture - which is a challenging task; This and a lot more - everything in walking distance from the hotel.
Possibility to add extra beds for children
