Wombats City Hostel - The Lounge Map

Newer, better, nicer! Opened in May 2006, this is our 2nd hostel in town, with a top location right on Vienna´s main shopping road.

from Westbahnhof
take the exit „Gerstnerstrasse“ (you should be standing in front of a Chinese Restaurant) once you´re outside – turn left and walk down Gerstnerstrasse until you hit the main street (Mariahilferstrasse) – look to your right and you can already see the Wombats on the opposite side of the street… we are number 137.

from Südbahnhof
Take Tram no. 18 to Westbahnhof. Left of the Westbahnhof train station is äussere Mariahilfer Strasse. Follow Mariahilfer Strasse until no. 137.

from Franz-Josef-Bahnhof
Take Tram no. 5 to Westbahnhof. Left of the Westbahnhof train station is äussere Mariahilfer Strasse. Follow Mariahilfer Strasse until no. 137.

from the Airport
most convenient is the shuttle bus to Westbahnhof (6 €, buy ticket from driver). The cheapest option is the S-Bahn to Wien Mitte and subway U3 to Westbahnhof from there (same ticket valid for both, 3.40 €). The "City Airport Train" (CAT) is a few minutes faster than the S-Bahn, but costs 8 Euros - it also ends at Wien Mitte, from where you´ll have to catch the U3 underground to Westbahnhof. The CAT ticket is NOT valid for the U3!

Shuttle bus:
It will drop you off on the northern side of Westbahnhof (which is a huge construction site at the moment) - we are on the southern side of it, so you have to walk around it or right through it, that´s faster. Here is how: walk into the station, then past all the platforms – all the way to platform 1 (always straight ahead), there are yellow arrows on the floor with „zur U-Bahn“ and “zur Strassenbahn” written on them… that’s the right way! – continue walking staight ahead, past Platform 1 until you enter the provisional entrance hall of the Westbahnhof – down the escalators in front of you – once you reach the bottom of the stairs turn right and take the exit „Gerstnerstrasse“ (you should be standing in front of a Chinese Restaurant) – turn left and walk down Gerstnerstrasse until you hit the main street (Mariahilferstrasse) – look to your right and you can already see the wombats on the opposite side of the street…

S-Bahn or CAT and U3:
get off U3 at Westbahnhof, then take the exit "Gerstnerstrasse". Don´t even think about the stairs, you are 40 meters below the surface - there are two elevators. When you´re up make a U-turn, you should be standing in front of a Chinese Restaurant now – turn left and walk down Gerstnerstrasse until you hit the main street (Mariahilferstrasse) – look to your right and you can already see the wombats on the opposite side of the street…
