Liked: + Location+ Ensuite bathroom+ Safety was good+ All in all reasonable value for money- Not clean, the common rooms on the 1st floor were especially dirty- The elevator didn't function properly- The staff were rude, snappy and arrogant to custumors at the desk, and some even couldn't speak decent English (in contrast to what it says on the Hostelbookers description, this hostel is not Australian operated)

Liked: Myself and my girlfriend had a 3 night stay at Dlux, we had a private double room, and the en-suite with shower was pretty handy!! Very noisy on the Saturday night. Location is pretty good, a scenic 45 min walk to Circular Quay. A bad point was staff walking into the room, knocking after they had already opened the door!! All in all value for money though

Liked: Pretty cheap but also one of the dirtiest hostels I've been to (stayed at 30+ in my life). Floors are filthy and lots of past guests' personal items remain in the rooms. On the plus side the location is good for King's Cross (on a main road) and safety/security were never really an issue. Although King's Cross is the "red light district," if you can deal with the occasional random person asking "want a girl?" you will be fine.One thing to consider is that getting to the central business district/opera house/botanical gardens/anywhere else on the subway ALWAYS requires a transfer. Look at a subway map and see King's Cross station in relation to Circular Quay, the station I ended up going to most often. Staying outside of Kings Cross will be more convenient for sightseeing but also more expensive and not as many options for nightlife in other parts of the city.No free wifi although most hostels in the area also do not have it. McDonald's down the street has free wifi but lots of people use it and the connection is not very good.

Liked: Staff were very friendly and helpful; check in/out was efficient; we had an ensuite room with 2 bunk beds which was very clean; the curtains were ripped and should have been replaced with new ones; one downside we found was that the elevator had a mind of its own, and was painfully slow. Our room was on the 5th floor, and NOT ONCE in our 3 night stay there did the elevator ever stop at the 5th floor before going to either the 6th or 7th floor, and then stopping on the 5th floor on the way down!! We took the stairs whenever we could, but when we had bulky luggage, the elevator came in handy. We were almost late checking out one morning because we had to wait so long for the elevator to find its way to the 5th floor!! If your room faces Darlinghurst St., it's very noisy with partiers up 'til all hours of the night. If you close the windows to shut out the noise, the room becomes stuffy; if you open the window, you get all the noise...The train station is right across the street which is really convenient; the bus lines are also close-by and very accessible. If you don't mind sharing the 2-3 block stretch of road with the "ladies of the night", you'll find this location close by to popular destinations such as Circular Quay,--a short train ride with one transfer--where the Sydney Opera House is, along with scores of day sailing tour vessels that take you out on the water for a coastal view of Sydney; harbor shops and eateries, the contemporary museum, and entertainers such as didgeridoo players, adorned with body paint-- as well as Bondi Beach, about a half-hour bus ride away.
