Liked: Price, roof top terrace, helpfulness of the staff

Disliked: The cockroach in the room to greet us when we arrived, the puke in the bathroom in the morning, the noise of someone puking to wake us up, the general dank smell and feel of the place. But what do you expect at a lower end backpackers

Liked: Sydney Central Backpackers was me and my girlfriends first hostel stay. Before we chose our hostel in Australia we compared every hostel listed on this site to our needs and narrowed it down to Sydney Central. Needless to say, we were not disappointed in our choice. We met many different kinds of people whom now we can call friends. However, what sells this place is the rooftop with the awesome view. You wont find another chill place to just hangout and be social. Danny the manager is the Man, he will help you with anything you need.

Disliked: Nothing. No other can compare to what this hostel can offer.

Liked: This place is great for those younger travelers looking for a party and a really good time. The rooftop area has some fantastic views over the city and the harbour (if you can get up there at night due to the volume of people up there!) Breakfast is as described (in most other reviews that is) SImple cornflakes and toast. The communal area is large and clean and all toilets are cleaned a number of times daily. The double room we stayed in was simple but clean. The dorm room was less so.

Disliked: If you want to get a night's sleep DO NOT go to this hostel. The walls, floors and ceilings are very thin which means that you can hear the relentless noise, shouting, singing, banging, and running around made by other guests until it stops at around 5am. There are signs telling people to keep quiet after 10pm but the responsibility lies with the management to deal with any excessive noise made after this time. Cleaners arrive at about 6..30am which is great as it shows the place is getting cleaned. However, the noise they make are just as loud as that made by the guests themselves. The manager of the property is abrupt and rude and forgot our $20 key deposit on two occasions.

Liked: We were really pleased with the place, considering its in Kings Cross! The staff were super friendly on arrival and our room was on the lowest level at the back of the building. There was a new plasma TV and a comfortable bed. There was only one issue during our stay and that was that some disgusting creature decided it would be hilarious to smear excrement all over the toilet wall. It was foul. But we were really impressed with the haste it was cleaned up in. The beer garden on the roof was fantastic and was great for meeting people. Overall the place was fantastic, we would definately stay there again.

Liked: we had a twin room on ground floor. the room itself was decently clean. BUT it was darker than a basement room because of a tiny 'window' to a lightwell up 5 floors to the room (practically no light) and sooo filthy (sanitary pads on lightwell floor right in front of window) - disgustingkitchen facilities filthy as wellwould never go back, rather spend a buck more and get a decent place!

Liked: Found the staff very helpful, great night entertainment and the BBQ is a must. the hostel was very clean and is a fantastic location, im definately coming back. Kitchen is a bit dated though

Liked: I spent three nights here, the first night in a private room. It was a small room, but it had a tv, shelves, towles, and bedding. The dorm room I stayed in did not include towels and it was average size. It was strangely loud around 4 a.m. (my room was on the front of the house) Some people had been there for a while, but mostly everyone was friendly.

Liked: The staff team (Katie and Dan) we very helping and nothing was too much trouble for them. THe Location of the Hostel is great for getting about the city. I would recommend this Hostel to other guests. At the time of my stay the Hostel was being refurbished, and this will make it even better than it is already.
