Liked: I liked the character of the place.

Disliked: I didnt like the fact that if you take the bus, there are only 2 arrivals and one is at 4am. I nearly froze to death waiting for the hostel to open. I also had to then leave again to catch the bus at 4am, which the hostel did not inform me of.

Liked: The hostel is in a very charming heritage house with lots of character where it's easy to meet other people. Staff was super friendly, there's free breakfast and beds were comfy. It was great to sit on the veranda in the evening and chat to other people and have a beer. I loved it here!!!

Liked: Nice swimming pool and homely feeling. Manager Tony was friendly.

Disliked: Kitchen was small, we booked a private double but the room was tiny and hot. The first hostel that did not give you towels or hire a towel...so we had to buy one.

Liked: Exceptionally friendly atmosphere due to the lay out of the hostel and the activities on offer by the very friendly staff who genuinely wanted everyone to have a good time.

Disliked: The resident pet blue tongue lizard!!!! - actually it is really cool and I have probably just offended it so I might track me down. (BTW it is very shy and lives outside and so will not cause any dramas!)

Liked: Cheap bike hire - though the bikes don't have gears or suspension. Bedrooms are clean, showers are modern and efficient. Good pizza deal with dominos.

Disliked: The kitchen area was quite old fashioned and not very big. Not great when they are full! Only a small area to sit and eat (just 6 chairs round a table and a couple of stools at the breakfast bar)), and I saw at least 3 small cockroaches in the pan cupboard. Laundry was costly ($4 per wash or dry when everywhere else is $3). The pool table was tiny, no point in it really being there. No social area for people to sit and drink and a COMPLETE BAN ON GOON, which for the budget traveller is ridiculous!! All other booze is apparently, though, perfectly acceptable.

Liked: Everything! First of all Tony and Vera are VERY friendly & helpful, they let you feel as if you are at home! Breakfast, tea, coffee, billiard and internet is for free!!! The rooms are very cosy and perfectly clean (for me this is very important and I can tell you it was perfect), the mattresses are amazing, so that you have a baby-like sleep. Bathrooms and kitchen are clean all day long, you find everything you need (pots, pans etc.)! The hostel is next door to a supermarket and vegetable shop. You can get a cheap and large pizza for 5,50 Dollar. It is definetely worth exploring Port Macquarie, especially the beaches, boardwalks around the lake and the koala hospital - everything is for FREE!!!

Disliked: nothing, would come back for sure!

Liked: Tony, the owner, was really friendly and always on hand to help with anything you needed. The free breakfast was great and the bike hire was really useful. Also the free internet was a bonus and very rare in Australia.

Disliked: We stayed in a double room which was quite small and there wasn't much room for 2 people's luggage.

Liked: An extremely friendly and fun place to stay. Owners are incredibly helpful, and the hostel is very clean and tidy. Bedrooms are spacious and the beds are so comfy (my best night sleep yet). There is much to do in Port Macquarie for those who want to know, and the owners have all the information you need. Day trips and activities are among the cheapest I have seen, and I would definitely recommend booking trips through this hostel. There are great beaches nearby, and the wildlife reserves are lovely places to visit. There is also a Koala hospital, although there were few Koalas on show at the time I got there in the day. Aim to go around feeding times. All in all I really enjoyed my stay here, and wished I had stayed longer and learnt to surf here, as the prices are much better here.

Disliked: I didn't dislike anything.

Liked: The tv room is never that busy so you can usually watch what you want, and the bathrooms were very clean.

Disliked: This was the most expensive hostel we have stayed in, so for a place like port Macquarie you expect a lot, but it was very disappointing. The kitchen is small and too busy during meal times. Although the tv room was usually available it is next to the outside area where people drink so having a quiet night watching a film is difficult because of the noise. The free pick-up was not offered despite previous calls before arriving. The free Internet is also very mis-leading. One computer with free internet I do not consider to be free Internet. The rooms were untidy and I found the owner quite unhelpful when it came to details on coaches (this was quite important during the floods).
