Port Campbell Hostel

We're a new hostel that is centrally located in Port Campbell, a small coastal village that straddles the famous Great Ocean Road, in south-western Victoria. "Port" lies in a beautiful horse-shoe shaped bay inside the Port Campbell National Park, home to arguably some of Australia's most scenic coastal attractions such as the Twelve Apostles (12km to Port's east), Loch Ard Gorge (7km east) and London Bridge (7km west). The stunning Bay of Islands is also really close, about 14km west.

As the comments within the 21st March 2011 review about the hostel suggest, we deliver a few characteristics that some folks can seem to easily come to grips with… but that others don’t.

1. We are a very clean hostel. (In fact, we consistently rate as one of the cleanest in Australia, based on ratings on other popular booking and review sites).

2. We host tour groups (M, T, Th, Sat and Sun). Each tour can cater for around 20 people and, sure, while they are not to everyone’s liking, they normally deliver a huge amount of energy and laughter!

3. The showers and toilets on the hostel’s first floor are a little quirky (but hopefully not the “worst” showers you will set eyes on!). Some folks love ‘em…others don’t!

4. For really, really good reasons hot water to our upstairs showers only runs from 7.00am–10.00am, and 5.00pm-10.30pm, (power to our kitchen’s cooking facilities follow similar hours). If you want to know why this is so, contact us to find out!

5. Other stuff
a. Off-street parking is free.
b. All bedding is supplied.
c. Our fully-equipped kitchen is complimented by a nifty 78-seat dining hall.
d. You can enjoy 15 HD digital channels on our TV.
e. Or wash your laundry for $3.00/w, $4.00/d.
f. Or surf the ‘net using our hostel hotspot ($3.00/30 minutes if you use our computers, much less $ if you use your own hardware).

6. If you plan to make a sunset visit to the Apostles to capture what can be incredible photos, we recommend you plan your journey to arrive no later than 30 minutes before sunset, to give yourself enough time to walk to the Apostles’ viewing platforms and get set-up at the best vantage points.

Finally, Port is a tiny village located on a very rugged piece of Aussie coastline, some distance from major population centers. So, businesses like our general store do not remain open for as long as you may be used to, and we recommend that you factor that into your travel plans and arrival times into Port.

Accommodation Information

We have three dorm types: 4, 6 and 8-bed, and can sleep a total of 86 people.

Private room types available are single, double/twin, triple and quad, and some are ensuited.

- Single rooms come with a comfortable king-single bed.
- Double/twin rooms come with a king-sized bed/two king-single beds.
- Triple rooms come with one king-sized and one king-single/three king-single beds.
- Quad rooms come with four single beds

All bed sheets/linen is provided. And because we don’t want bed-bugs in our Hostel, we DO NOT permit sleeping bags (or similar) inside the building, at all.

The Hostel’s 175m from the beach, 150m from the bus stop, 125m from Port Campbell's only pub and about 3 minutes walk from the village general store.

Port Campbell is 12km west of the iconic 12 Apostles, and 7km east of the equally (in)famous London Bridge, on the world-renowned Great Ocean Road (GOR).

Other coastal attractions close to Port Campbell are:
1. The Bay of Islands National Park: 18km west, via the GOR
2. The Bay of Martyrs: 14km west, via the GOR
3. The Grotto: 8km west, via the GOR
4. The Arch: 6km west, via the GOR
5. 2-Mile Bay, directly west of Port Campbell Bay's mouth. (The wave at 2-Mile is one of Australia's largest surfable waves (around 40-foot high), and normally springs to life around March, April and May. You can see it up-close-and-personal from the western end of the 2km long Discovery Walk, which follows the cliff face along the western edge of Port Campbell Bay).
6. Eastern Reef, directly east of Port Campbell Bay's mouth. This reef provides a gentler left-hand wave, in suitable conditions.
7. Double Bay Track: 4km east, via the GOR
8. Sherbrook River Mouth: 6km east, via the GOR.
9. Loch Ard Gorge (incl. The Razorback, Island Archway, Muttonbird Island, The Blowhole, Thunder Cave and Broken Head): 8km east, via the GOR.
10. Gibsons Beach: 13km east, via the GOR.
11. Wreck Beach and Moonlight Head: 40km east, off the GOR
