Liked: very friendly owners who are happy to help. good socialising area, close to beach.

Disliked: there was no milk for the free tea/coffee, internet was very slow.

Liked: The location was amazing! Right on the beach and next to the village. A free shuttle bus picked us up and took us back to the bus station which was ideal. Richard and his wife are the nicest people you will ever meet! Richard helped me with my bag into the room which was a much appreciated gesture, and you could tell, unlike so many other hostels that i've stayed at, that they genuinely like backpackers. It had a really homely feel to it and i felt very welcome. The hostel itself was clean, nice air-conditioned rooms with comfortable beds and plenty of social areas. The other people staying in the hostel were really nice too. Has to be one of my favourite hostels that i've stayed in so far, don't go anywhere else in Mission Beach!

Liked: I enjoyed staying in this retreat! The owners are lovely, they really give you a warm welcome. They also pick you up for free from the busterminal. Excellent! The hostel is clean en cosy. I was there for just one night, but if I could I would stay longer. Don't think Mission Beach is just good for a Sky dive, there is more! I enjoyed the afternoon at the beach, just 50mtr from the hostel!! Choose this hostel and you will have a relaxed staying. Cheers!

Liked: The Retreat had the nicest atmosphere of all the hostels we have stayed in so far! The people are really friendly and we felt really comfortable there!

Liked: How welcoming and friendly everyone was there. The location was perfect too!!

Disliked: I had to have a top bunk, and that's not their fault.

Liked: Staff were very friendly and welcoming and organised a great trip to josephine falls whilst i was there. kitchen and bathrooms were clean and tidy. And i loved the pool area.

Liked: location was fantastic.

Disliked: grubby, dirty environment, paper thin walls, staff talking loudly late at night. Filthy bathroom. Single sheets on a double bed - uncomfortable and ill-fitted sheets. Two people sharing a single top sheet and single blanket. Ridiculous.

Liked: Fantastic, friendly, family run hostel with a chilled out vibe. Incredibly helpful staff. Great value. Perfect in every way.

Liked: The guy who worked there was very helpful - he sent me my towel in the post when I had left because I left it behind.

Liked: Right on the beach. Good little pool. Very friendly staff. Loads of DVDs. Sports channels on the TV.

Disliked: Inward facing rooms, no natural light.

Liked: The manager was very helpful and friendly. We got stuck here for 5 days due to the floods and he rung Greyhound, the police, rental car companies and other hostels to see if there was any way to get us out of Mission Beach. After 5 days he then drove us up to Innisfail to get a coach to Cairns. He couldn't have done more to help us. Hostel is in a brilliant location, right on the beachfront and literally 2 steps to the town center. Has a nice pool and the rooms are decent.

Liked: Very friendly and obliging owner (with a courtesy bus to the hostel and the local attractions), offered us a second dry for laundry for free as we had a lot of clothes and they were slightly damp after the first spin! Tea, Coffee and basic cooking ingredients available (like pepper, olive oil). Owner happy to help even outside office hours if you need something quickly!

Liked: It's chilled out and it's in the centre of mission beach.

Disliked: Not much goinig on in this hostel at night.

Liked: That they picked us up from the bus stop.

Disliked: Quite run down in appearance. Woman at desk was clearly irritating a lot of the guests, was quite stern in her approach to customer service: heard that the owner was away and that it was his parents looking after the place, which perhaps she wasn't too happy about??!! Just didn't make a relaxed, fun atmosphere: more like having your mum watching your every move and niggling at little things!
