Liked: It has such unique character and people are like living there instead of 'staying' there. It's an old edgy place with basic cleanliness and facilities, a little bit disorganized but I enjoyed the personality of the place and people. Internet is almost like free! Overall happy!

Disliked: The check-in check-out could be little disorganized but I'm okay with it as I wasn't in a rush. Actually, it's so cool I didn't have to check out! Staff was nice.

Disliked: I have never seen such a dirty hostel. the beds in the rooms smell very ugly, so you can't sleep. you have snails in your room and you never want to see the bathroom or the toilet. Dirty is an understatement!

Liked: I had such a great stay at Collingwood. I stayed here 2 months into my travels and decided that these slightly shabbier, more homely hostels are what travelling is all about. Yes it was full of smokers (I don't smoke) and no it wasn't the cleanest place but character, I learnt, is so much more important than all those things. For my first two nights in Melbourne I stayed in a clean secure hostel in the CBD with my own plug socket, bedside table with dimmer light and my own lockable wardrobe but you could walk around it all day and never meet anyone, it had no soul. Collingwood is a 5 min tram ride to the CBD and you can actually walk it in about 30 mins cause lets face it, you're probably not that busy that you can't walk 30 mins into town whilst chatting away with your new friends! On my second day Paul (the owner) arranged a BBQ, the whole hostel attended like a big family. Then Paul decided not to charge anyone for it, what a legend! This hostel is perfect for the lone traveller, it attracts the most lovely laid back people you could hope to meet and you are sure to make some great friends. Thanks for a great stay.

Liked: Like jining a big family for a couple of nights. everyone is really welcoming. Alot of people are here long term, living together. I felt really welcome and had a chance to get over my jet lag. The two cats were really cute and made it feel like a home from home.
