About Melbourne Central YHA

Melbourne Central YHA backpackers hostel is located in the heart of Melbourne’s vibrant CBD close to all of Melbourne’s best events including the Spring Racing Carnival, Summer Music Festivals, Grand Prix and the Australian Open Tennis. The hostel is walking distance to the Yarra River, Federation Square, ACMI and Melbourne Aquarium.

Affordable tours are available at reception to Victoria’s best attractions including Phillip Island penguin tours, day trips to the Grampians National Park and of course the Great Ocean Road! In the hostel, the high speed YHA Connect internet, Wi-Fi and Skype allows you to catch up with friends and family back home and tell them about your adventures – not to mention uploading your photos!

Our kitchens and guest lounges have recently had a renovation, and we have also added 2 exclusive rooftop rooms with ensuites. Inside the combined kitchen/guest lounge areas, we have flat screen TV’s and you can borrow DVD’s for free from reception.

YHA focus on guest safety, and have installed electronic door locks throughout the hostel. All multishare rooms have lockers, but we do ask you to bring your own lock; but if you forget, don’t worry; locks can be purchased from reception if required.

Up on the rooftop, we have a new BBQ area – the perfect spot for a drink and a city sunset. We also have an additional undercover level one balcony area with couches.

We are close to Melbourne’s public transport system, making it easy to get around the city. The hostel is only 900m walk from Southern Cross Station - Melbourne's main arrival point for regional and interstate buses, trains and airport shuttle buses.

There is a free City Circle tram that operates in the CBD with a stop directly in front of the hostel - now that's convenience! The free Melbourne City Visitor Shuttle Bus also operates in the CBD and the closest stop is just 5 minutes walk.

Accommodation Information

Melbourne Central YHA have a range of rooms to choose from including 3, 4 and 6 multi share, twin/doubles with the option for ensuite, plus, some special private rooms with ornate balconies overlooking Flinders Street. We have recently added two new brightly coloured rooftop rooms with ensuite, painted like the Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes!

Location Information

We are less than a ten minute walk to Southern Cross Station which provides regional, interstate and airport transportation.

Located at Stop 1 on the Free City Circle Tram, Route 70 (Waterfront City - Wattle Park via MCG) and Route 75 (City Spencer St - Vermont South via MCG).

Located a short walk from Stop 123 on Tram Route 96 (St Kilda - East Brunswick), Route 112 (St Kilda - West Preston) and Route 109 (Port Melbourne - Box Hill).
