Liked: Atmosphere phenomenal breakfast

Disliked: Poor kitchen equipment, e.g. no pot has intact handles, too less pots and pans Poor kitchen cleaniness, even the reception caretaker just leaves his trash on the tables and does not clean up his plates

Liked: The location was perfect and the staff were super friendly. They also had lots of recommendations for where to go in Melbourne.

Disliked: The bathrooms didn't always have toilet paper, and one of the toilets didn't flush properly.

Liked: Really nice hostel that offers a lot of specials (BBQ night, pancakes...) and has a nice yard to sit and relax. I definately recommend it to other travellers. Nice mix of people there.

Disliked: Could use a fan in the dorms and the kitchen is quite small .

Liked: Lovely old-fashioned building in a really great location - very short walk to Brunswick St and the city centre.

Disliked: Coffee and tea are not available outside kitchen hours. The kitchen seemed badly managed - there were no tea towels that I ever saw, and food got cleaned out (or taken) from the fridge before the end of my stay, even though it was clearly labelled.

Liked: The vibe of the place was excellent, I really enjoyed the whole old nunnery vibe. It was very relaxed. Close to the cool Brunswick st district and the city.

Disliked: The hot water in the showers was very low pressure which was annoying. The breakfast is not very good but what do you expect.

14 April 2011 Customer would recommend this property

Liked: Lovely old mansion house building, grand hallways and stairwells, high ceilings. Great location very close to town (walk in 10mins) and right by trams & museum.

Disliked: The 4 person room was very small & cramped, could have done with being twice the size. No original features, more like a little box. The 6 person rooms looked comparatively lovely and spacious with old features. Bathrooms were a bit dated (showers a bit old/worn).

10 April 2011

Liked: It was close to the city.

Disliked: It was very noisy (drunk people running through the corridors yelling at 12am on a Friday night, people singing in German until after 11pm during the week). The kitchen was filthy. Durying my week stay I only ever saw it clean once. They locked the kitchen at night and didn't open it till 8am which was well after the time I had to leave each day.

Liked: It's atmosphere was more like a home than a hostel....as its set in a Mansion, it has a real homely warm feel to it... also, the Free BBQ's and Pancake Breakfasts were great!, as they were not obliged to put these on.

Disliked: My only dislike was the fact that the hostel charges for WiFi. I have traveled to over 50 countries, so have stayed in countless Hostels around the world...and NEVER have i had to pay for, what amounts to really in essence, a Digital signal. Fair enough if they charge for using the PC consoles....but how can you justify charging for a signal?? Granted i have observed that this is an Australia-New Zealand wide policy of charging...this must change, and get with the real world, of Hostelling.

Liked: Good facilities. Nice comfortable lounge, a decent kitchen, and good atmosphere. Also there were a lot of friendly people there, and it had a more relaxed vibe to it than the other hostels I've been to in Melbourne, and I liked that.

Disliked: I found out check-out is at 09:30. That's just weird because I've been to over 40 hostels (especially in New Zealand), and it's ALWAYS 10:00.

Disliked: dusty. Needed a spring clean, but staff were willing to clean if requested. Too many things left behind by other guests for a long time before being thrown out by us.

25 October 2010 Customer would recommend this property

Liked: It is a beautiful building and it is located within walking distance of both central Melbourne and Fitzroy. The use of key cards also gives a sense of security. Plenty of organised tours available from the reception.

Disliked: Internet access is expensive, the four-bed dorm which I stayed in is cramped and right above the kitchen, which means we can hear all the noise throughout the night. The eight-bed dorm, in contrast, is more spacious (even accounting for the eight persons) and has its own ensuite bathroom, which is a plus.
