Built in 1888 and the former home of the Daughters of Charity, this is the original building of The Nunnery and it is also its heart and the nerve centre.

Georgian in style and 3 stories high, with a beautiful grand staircase, stained glass windows and more religious artwork and paraphernalia than you can wave a rosary bead at.

The Budget building of The Nunnery is ideal for people who don't want to pay for things they wont use. Rooms are clean and simple - yet stylish, and range from Double rooms (some with televisions) to share rooms for backpackers.

You will fall in love with the ambience of this building.

The Budget section of The Nunnery has a wide variety or rooms all of which are completely unique to each other and range in size and price from private rooms to share rooms for backpackers.

Simple but clean & tidy, budget private rooms are serviced upon request.

A free continental breakfast is included each day (8am to 10am) and free tea, coffee and hot chocolate is available for whenever you have the urge.

Budget Single Rooms
We only have a very small number of Single rooms so advance bookings are highly recommended.

All budget singles have polished floorboards, single bed (linen & towel supplied of course), table, chair, lamp and radiator or fan. Some of them have a view over the Carlton Gardens.

Budget Double/Twin Rooms
The most popular rooms at The Nunnery so be sure to book ahead.



All budget doubles have polished floorboards, double bed (or 2 single beds if a budget twin) with linen & towels supplied, bedside table, lamp and radiator or fan. Some have a view over the Carlton Gardens and a few doubles have televisions.


Budget Bunk Twin Rooms
Slightly cheaper than normal budget twins, budget bunk twins are quite simply a bunk in a room on its own.

All budget bunk twins have polished floorboards with linen and towels supplied and a radiator or fan. Some have a bedside table and a lamp and a few have a view over the Carlton Gardens.

Shared Rooms
The Nunnery is one of the most popular backpacker accommodation providers in Australia so bookings in advance are greatly encouraged.



We have a range of dormitories ranging in size from 3-share to 12-share. Almost all share rooms have polished floorboards and plenty of natural light and ventilation. A couple of rooms are female only but most are mixed sex.
