Liked: Very clean. Good atmosphere and easy to meet people. Melbourne overall is very expensive especially for alcohol but the hostel has some good deals and gives away free shots!! It about 10 mins walk from the main shopping streets in melbourne. The only negative aspect was the room we stayed in was next to the motorway and it was very noisy! other than this excellent hostel, the best iv stayed in so far!!

Disliked: The noise from the motorway was quite loud, you need earplugs to get some sleep!

Liked: This place was very clean and they provided you with good lockers to lock your belongings up.

Disliked: Most of the staff didn't seem overly friendly. Definitely not the kind of people who would go out of their way to help you.

Liked: The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The breakfast consisted of milk, oj, wheatabix, toast, vegemite and cereal, which is better than most places breakfasts. Also, the free pasta and rice was nice.

Disliked: The staff was rude. Their answers were short and smile-less. I understand that working on christmas might be a drag but everybody should be happy during the holidays. The place lacked character and felt sterile. Other than the bar, there was no place for everyone to chill out. Also, we stayed there Christmas night, and the cost more than doubled for that night.

Liked: The rooms were very spacious, and shared bathroom was clean and had enough showers/toilets for the floor. The location is great. The hostel is very safe and secure with lockers in dorms.

Liked: big lockers provided in all dorm rooms, good bathrooms

Disliked: The place is called Urban Central, but to go to the City takes a few minutes by tram. Check-in and -out times are very inflexible, even when only changing room.

Liked: It was really big so it didn't have much characater, but it was clean, staff were great, and it was relaxed. Good kitchen.

Liked: i loved how close it was to the CBD and the cost per night. There were also alot of activities organised within the Backpackers, and a notice board explaining activities that were going on in the city or outside of the Hostel.

Disliked: the airconditioner leaked which made our room smell terrible :(

Liked: It is located right smack-dab in the CBD as advertised. If your looking to spend some time in Melbourne and party, this place is for you. Staff were very friendly (ex: they lost our booking, so they gave us a discounted rate-good thing we traveled in off-season and beds were available, though).

Disliked: Music volume was cranked up at reception to an absurd level. This only added to the already hectic and frenetic tone of Melbourne's CBD--fine if your there to party, not if your traveling. We had to go to reception at least five times (between two people) replacing key cards before we finally got a pair that worked.

Liked: excellent breakfast with good bread (not your homebrand stuff)good atmosphere with good bar - close to mcdonalds too for those midnight snack moments.people say it's far from the city but it's only a 10 minute walk and there are trams right outside the door.

Disliked: THE SHOWERS! Booked for 5 nights and only stayed for 3 because the showers were between tepid and cold. When asked, they said it would be ready in 24 hours, but speaking to a longtermer there, he said it had been like it for months, hence my decision to ask for a refund. I also think they need to clean the toilets more often. Too many times there was what you don't want to see around the bowl. With the Melbourne weather, it would have been nice to have a working heater in the room. Sadly ours was just ornamental. Again, a guy came in to fix it, but after he finished sparks were jumping from one end to the other inside so I didn't risk my life.

Liked: IT had good facilities and and had good facilities and the staff were very friendly.

Disliked: The showers were freezing cold on my 2nd morning there. also the showers and the toilets smelled strange. The dorms were really stinky. The beds were uncomfortable.

Liked: Only four beds to a room - free breakfast, coffee, tea, pasta and rice. Although it is not exactly in the city center, it is at reasonable walking distance (10 to 15 minutes).

Disliked: A window was broken and was almost impossible to close, which was especially annoying due to loads of noise from the nightclub visitors that had to line up under our window. Reception staff did not respond immediately to requests for help in closing the window. I also did not appreciate the plastic covers around my mattress and pillow - it is uncomfortable. The reception desk can be extremely busy.
