Liked: It is a beautiful old house, stylish. The best place of all the places which we have seen in AU on our round trip. It is much more a guest house than a hosstel, very charming and the owner is really cool. The breakfast is great, much better than in other hostels.

Disliked: everzthing was perfect

Liked: Very clean, self contained bathrooms were ideal for that bit more privacy.

Disliked: Potentially could do with a lift facility for those with disability or with lots of baggage.

Liked: The building is impressive and nice to stay in, the bedrooms are spotless and towels and soaps are given. The free breakfast is great, lots to choose from and keeps costs down for travellers. Staff are really friendly.

Disliked: The only negative is the kitchen only has 2 microwaves so you have to buy microwavable meals if you choose to eat in. The location is great though so there's restaurants, cafes and fast food on your doorstep on Chapel St.

Liked: Bathrooms were clean. Central location very handy.

Disliked: The staff were not very helpful, told us wrong directions. Cleaners took one of our personal towels and cannot be found! The cooker and oven were broke and staff made no effort to get it fixed. We were not told this when checking in, therefore we bought food which we could not cook and went to waste. No apology was made. In addition when checking in staff complained when we payed in cash and tried to make us pay on card, this did not make us feel welcome and all we wanted was to head to bed after our 23 hour flight. We were told there was free wifi however on the website it does not state this is limited. Window of the room did not close properly which meant noisy traffic from main road could be heard at all times.

Liked: clean bathrooms, large number of bathrooms complimentary breakfast complimentary hot drinks free wi-fi (excellent!)

Disliked: the bed covers were a bit dusty when I check in - seems like the bad had been empty for a while and nobody checked room since the fan in the room was really loud liquid soap would be great and more economic than the single soap sachets, I think

Liked: Fantastic.. so nice clean.. good dorms meeting lot of people.. near to bars and restraurants.. and the subway.. easy to find! breakfast was good to..

Liked: Great location next to Chapel Street (handy if you're into shopping & restaurants) and if you're not, it's a short tram ride to the centre and the arts district. More of a basic hotel than a hostel, in positive ways: adult guests, no enforced socializing or drunk gap year kids! (If you're looking for a 'party hostel', this ain't it.) Staff very polite and generous with free internet cards. Spotless bathrooms cleaned twice daily.

Disliked: Dude down the hall sat sweating with the door to his room open for the duration of our stay, stinking up the whole corridor. (Though guests' lack of personal hygiene is, of course, not the hostel's fault!!) Few cobwebs in the corners but nothing major, rooms small and hot, but equipped with good fans.

Liked: Rooms are basic but you have what you need. Bedrooms & Bathrooms are very clean. Most of the staff are very helpful and friendly and great to talk to. WIFI in your rooms, although it is limited so you can't download etc. Good breakfast- again, basic, but it has what you need (toast, cereal, juice, fruit, coffee, tea). Lovely, old building with wide spaces.

Disliked: There was one member of staff who was always miserable, which was a let down for the rest of the staff who were very lovely. This is only minor, however, and did not affect our stay too much. There is no backpacker atmosphere. The dining and lounge area seem empty most of the time (apart from at breakfast). It's more like a hotel or BnB which is great if that's what you are coming for. These are the only flaws however. I would definitely recommend this place.

Liked: Nice and cozy atmosphere! Breakfast included, as well as wifi internet access. A lot of bathrooms, and all were very clean and nice!

Disliked: For internet access, you need to get a code from the reception. The trouble is that you need one code for each device, per day, and per 100 MB of downloads. This means that we (two people with a smart phone and computer each) needed a total of 2 people times 2 devices times 4 days = 16 code coupons from the reception, and a few extra since the download cap is quickly reached when doing Google+ Handouts with video.

Liked: Very friendly and informative check in. Free wifi which is always good. Bathrooms are individual ones unlike larger hostels, toilet basin and shower in one room, very clean, shame that pressure in shower on 2nd floor is very weak. Building has character, full of info leaflets. We stayed 3 nights and we were very glad that it wasn't extremely hot outside as the entire building was warm at all times and the bedroom was very hot @ night. No air con, ceiling fan didn't do much but window opened helped, if you didnt mind the blind hitting you on top of your forehead as you slept, bed was pushed right up to window in room 220. This room was very small, we requested a double, presuming that it would be similar to picture on main website page and it just was not. Double bed, tiny desk and small set of shelves to put things, with two large suitcases between us, the only place to stand was behind the door. Very small. However positives, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and even though its on a main street, lovely peaceful nights no noise at all. The guest houe is a minute walk to South Yarra train station and it is just so convenient, its 2/3 stops away from flinders street station, taking approx 5-6 minutes and there is fed sq. FREE BREAKFAST is a welcomed part of the stay, toast, and cereal, fruit and free tea and coffee all day.

Disliked: We were on 2nd floor, and our cases were very heavy, no elevator. But then you had the character so.... Small room, would be unbearable in hot temperatures. Pressure of shower.

Liked: Clean and quiet. Staff very helpful. Breakfast included.

Disliked: Not all dorms have lockers - I had to ask to be moved to one that did. Kitchen area is really just a microwave.

Liked: The location is definitely a plus : train is 1min away from the door and when you attend events like the Australian Open it's very convenient because you stop at the next train station.

Disliked: Rooms are very hot at night although it's fresh outside, so something should be done to better ventilate the rooms.

Liked: Good location near city, free wi-fi, feels like a B&B more than a hostel. Nice building, good breakfast included.

Disliked: Not your usual backpackers-hostel vibe, but that might be what you're after. Main niggle: room too warm. No air con just a fan. And secure lockers in room would be handy.
