Liked: The location was great. Everything was within a stones throw. Free breakfast was nice but you had to leave a deposit for a cup.

Disliked: The staff had not even processed my booking. They asked me to prove that I had a booking with them. After this they were extremely unprofessional, they warned me that I might catch a disease whilst staying with them. The hostel was dirty, toilets in particular. The room I was in had cupboard storage for our bags but they were all full of dirty clothes so I couldn't use them. We were only given one sheet and one pillow case so i had to use my sleeping bag as the bed was very dirty. The TV room was right next to the pool table so you could not hear the TV as people were generally getting drunk and being loud around the same area. Only stay at this hostel if you like drunk Irish people as that seemed to be the general population.

Liked: It was very well located.

Disliked: The sanitary was in bad shape (5th floor). Once I had to go to the 4th floor and that sanitary was much more proper.

Liked: Our private double room was nice although always boiling-the fan doesn't do anything .

Disliked: The staff seem like they can't be bothered to help you and are more interested in socialising. seem to pick and choose who they like and a few were really rude. Someone was able to let themselves into our private room at midnight and despite complaining we didn't even get an apology. A member of staff patrols the kitchen at meal times shouting at you where to cook and perving on girls- not a very comfortable cooking experience! we booked to stay for christmas as on the net it said they were having a party but nothing happened which was disappointing. we were pleased to be able to escape to our private room as the dorms look disgusting!

Liked: The location

Disliked: The staff were not helpful and looked liked they didn't want to be there, the toilets were not clean and the room was very small and smelly. Had no pillow on arrival and had to ask three times before one was given in the room.

Liked: We booked a double bed room and it was the sweetest room we have stayed in for quite a while on our trip. And such a great location to explore the city. Very safe place.

Disliked: Facilities weren't amazing, but okay.

Liked: The only real good thing was the location, smack bang in the centre of the CBD and only a minute to Flinder's Street Station. The walk in fridge was a bonus as there was plenty of room for everyone's stuff though it would really benefit from a clean once in a while!

Disliked: The level of noise all the time meant a good night sleep was impossible. The kitchen was really dirty so it put us off cooking in it all of our stay. There was mouldy food in the cupboards so it was clear they didn't clear out old food. Staff were friendly but seemed distracted by what was going on at the hostel (like nights out etc) and seemed quite understaffed all the time.

Disliked: This hostel was absolutely disgusting. The staff were horrendously rude, cleanliness of facilities was disgusting. Money was stolen from me and I woke up covered in bites from either/both bed bugs or fleas. This is after only being able to get around two hours sleep due to people constantly trying to break into the room. I'm appalled that this place is allowed to remain open. Third world accommodation is a dream compared to this dive.

Liked: Sharing and goodwill of all backpacker friends. Additionally, helpfulness of the staff that pretty well.

Disliked: Very noisy from the 3rd floor and door closing.

Liked: Tons of people...always something going on. Rooms ok. Bar area noisy if you are on the lower floors but otherwise ok. Not huge value for money but this is the city!

Disliked: Only one lift serving 10 floors of a busy building made life a pain at times. FIX THE OTHER LIFT!!

Disliked: First impressions not good - people drinking and smoking by the main door. Slightly intimidating atmosphere. Long wait at reception. I wouldn't stay here again. If you can afford it go some where else.

Disliked: Not tell the truth on booking sites. Not always helpfull. I arrived 1pm and couldn't check in before 3pm. Then I tried other site of reception with somebody else and I could ckeck in immidiatly!!! Many people and few pans. Now cleaning kids for kitchen

Liked: Room (we had a private double with shared bathroom) was clean and light- being on the front of the property overlooking Flinders Street. I can see that if you got a room on the back it would not be as nice though as the windows overlook a rather grubby alleyway. Bathrooms were as clean as you could expect from a hostel and showers always nice and hot! We were on the 5th floor and actually didn't have a problem at all with noise- the bar deck below us was always cleared promptly at 11pm every night and the windows blocked out most of the street noise- trams stop at midnight anyway so unless you go to bed really early they won't bother you! Nice to have a TV in the room as well. Location is really good, right by the station and lots of restaurants and tram stops- it's just a little bit hard to work out how to get into the hostel when you first arrive! (Tip- it's the alleyway with glass door on the left of the Westpac ATMs, not the escalator on the corner as we thought) Nice and secure as well- you need your card to access all the staircases, the lift and the bathrooms. We never had a problem with our card not working but others seemed to.

Disliked: Staff attitude- it was only from one member of staff (all others were lovely and very helpful!). When we first arrived around 10.30am (having come from another hostel in Melbourne) we weren't expecting to be able to check in, as check in was 1pm, but just wanted to maybe register for the room as we have done at other hostels in the past, and drop our bags so we could explore Melbourne a bit before checkin. I was greeted by a young English guy at the desk and before I could explain this, he just went to me "No. 1pm." and when I asked if there was somewhere we could leave our bags he flat out said no- something which was completely wrong as we later found out there are lockers for luggage storage in the main common room! That meant we had to carry all our luggage around with us for 3 hours for no reason! When we came back to check in later he was also being quite rude and abrupt with a girl who was trying to check in and didn't speak very good English- visably sighing and shaking his head at her. All the other staff at the hostel were lovely so it was unfortunate that our first impression of the hostel was affected by this one guy's attitude.

Liked: It has a great communal area.

Disliked: The hostel is situated right next to a night club. This means there is booming, loud music until 5am in the morning. If you want any sleep before this time, don't stay here!

Liked: Value for money, great central CBD location with all amenities like supermarket, shops, library, train station all nearby, free tourist tram and bus, free breakfast, claimable inbound airport shutttle bus fare, daily cleaning, full kitchen with fridge room and hot water, key card, friendly staff especially the nice brunette and the cute guy.

Disliked: 4-bed dorm a bit cramped when fully occupied. No TV in room. No free internet. Hot shower sometimes warms quite slow.
