Liked: Good location, good bar downstairs, 10 bed dorm are very big so lots of personal space. lockers in room. en suite it huge, very new and clean

Disliked: i got bitten 145 times on my 1st night, by what im not sure as only me in the room got bitten, but as i checked in, 4 guys in another room were changing rooms as they all had bed bugs. the kitchen is a joke, its tiny, has very little crockery and has 2 hobs that only work when they want too.

Liked: Really nice place to stay in St KIlda, its about 15 minutes to melbourne city and a 5 minutes walk to beach. The staff was really helpful, and hospitable. You got integrated into the community pretty fast. The rooms are ok, every room got its own bathroom.

Disliked: I got some bedbugs, but the staff paid the laundry bills, and i got a new room, the bedbug problem is an issue that depends on many hostels.

Liked: The St Kilda Beach House at the Hotel Barkly is my favourite place to stay in Melbourne. I have stayed there every time I have visited Melbourne since 2007 - now well over 10 times.I have stayed there for business trips and also taken big groups of friends over from Perth for some of Melbourne's big sporting events. They accommodated a group of over 80 people for AFL Grand Final weekend and also a group of 50 people for the Spring Racing Carnival (Melbourne Cup). The staff there are always incredibly helpful and friendly.It is in a perfect location, close to the amazing St Kilda bars and restaurants, and not far away from anywhere else that you would want to visit around town.The Hotel Barkly pub on the ground level has cheap drinks and great (but cheap) food. And the rooftop bar, Next Level, has a stunning view of St Kilda and is one of the best places in Melbourne to go out.I look forward to our next time in Melbourne so I can visit the great people at the Hotel Barkly & St Kilda Beach House!

Liked: What a cool place! I found the rooms at Hotel Barkly clean and neat, the service at reception was helpful and the meals served up in the ground floor bar were really well priced - you can't go past the $2 pizza, best thing for a back packer's budget. Will def come back during summer and check it out - the Rooftop bar would be ace during the warmer months.Would recommend to anyone planning a trip to Melbourne :)

Liked: The Beach House was a great place to stay, the staff are friendly and extremely helpful, Free Brekkie Included, the rooms are clean and really spacious, with ensuited bathrooms. The Bar has loads going on inlcuding cheap meals and good entertainment. The city is only a short tram ride away if you are wanting to head into town.I would definately recommend this hostel for the location, the great staff and the facilities.

Liked: I stayed here for 4 months and had the best 4 months... i met some amazing people whilst staying here! The staff are so friendly and helpful and go out of their way to help. There is a good atmosphere around the hostel and they have a bar downstairs which has theme nights and really good quality cheap food on offer!! The rooms are clean and spacious with really nice modern bathrooms! I liked it so much i got a job here and now work on reception and i love it!!!

Liked: Not too bad. Average. You can stay there for 2, 3 nights but for longer you should choose a place where you are allowed to open windows and where you have a nice common room.

Liked: The only good thing about this place is that there is a door to leave again. There were only 3 lockers to a ten bed dorm and one bathroom/toilet - on the day I arrived the mattresses had to be treated for bed bug infestation. The air con leaked. There is a bar below the hostel and a nightclub above so constant noise. The beds are not assigned and so I had a half an hour worth of confusion as to which bed I was supposed to be in as the dirty linen from the previous occupants who had checked out that day was still on the beds. For the price I paid at $30 a night, there are much nicer places to stay for the money. The hostel is not secure as twice there were non residents of the hostel in the dorm I was staying in, there were two people to one bed on two of the nights as well. I would never stay here again nor recommend it to anyone else.

Liked: I will completely recommend this hostel to other backpackers and friends too!! The staff are so helpful, nice and friendly! The rooms are perfect and all en-suite, the bathrooms are really big and modern too!! The kitchen is small but theres enough of everything and its perfect for what you need to do!! The area is wicked, st kilda is such a great spot, hostel is close to the beach too!! There is a great atmosphere and down in the bar they always have great drink specials on offer and the food in Jimmy's Kitchen is tasty and well priced!! Made lots of wicked friends here love it love it!!

Liked: Good location.friendly staff.I thought that you would have access to the roof top,when i looked in the site..When i wanted to go and visit,someone from the hostel said it was only opened on weekends.I stayed in a female dorm only.But unfortunately the girls were really messy!! And i think they could remove one bunk bed from the room leaving only as a 8 bedder.Also there is not one hook to hang towels in the bathroom.Under my bed ,close to the wall was quite dirty.But overall ok.Breakfast was ok too.
