Liked: Great location for the city

Disliked: No window in room. There was no A/C, and not even a fan in the kitchen and adjoining lounge, so it was like being in a sauna. There was an outside deck, but at the time that we visited, it was closed for maintenance. The only place to relax in comfort was the TV/ games room. Not ideal if you want a quiet time, and there is a hostel policy of no alcohol anywhere except the deck.

Liked: Rooms were very large and had proper beds in - not bunk beds! It was very clean and quiet and the kitchen was huge. There's also a DVD and games room, which is nice for the people staying there.

Disliked: We arrived late on a flight from Brisbane and told the hostel we'd be there between 9 and 10pm...but when we arrived at 9:15pm it had closed (closes at 9pm)! Thankfully we found some people staying there who let us in and helped us find the receptionist, but otherwsie we'd have been locked out all night - make sure you get there before 9 as even if you tell them you'll be late, they don't seem to wait for you. (We got no apology for this...just told that they didn't know when we'd arrive so they closed anyway - despite it being on our booking form!)

Disliked: Having to hire cutlery and crockery. I understand the reason but didn't expect Airlie Beach to be vuklnerable to so much theft that tghis was warranted.

Disliked: it was very dirty. No windows in Thee dorms, unfriendly staff. No not stay in this town if you dont have to, not a minute.

Liked: We had advised the place that we were arriving late (21:00), but the receptionists attitude once we did arrive was like we would have arrived at 3:00 in the morning and were bothering here... The room had only windows on the ceiling, which had no curtains, so we woke up at 6:00 with the sun...

Liked: very cute decorations. clean. large kitchen. nice terrace to sit outside. spacious in the rooms. very calm and quiet. close to bus station. not good: hot and "thick air" in the rooms. no windows. not sure, but maybe caught bed bugs there... even thought it seemed clean. not much around to do. (very calm and quiet.)

Liked: Best part of the hostel is the big kitchen with wooden tables. Rooms are dark, even those with windows and not very friendly. Roof terrace could have been nice, but it was the ashtray of the hostel. A party place for (very) young people, but not a place for travellers. I would not recommend this place.

Liked: The place is small, and clearly Mackay isn't the tour destination of many people, but the internet is cheap, the owner is nice, and its basically a bare-bones hostel. I couldn't complain since I was only looking for a place to spend a night, but compared to other hostels I found it wanting.

Liked: It is just a nice homely place to be. The lady on reception is very helpful and honest. Not really a pure party den but you can BYO and make your own fun!

Liked: The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful, the hostel as a whole had a personal atmosphere, the location is perfect, in the centre and near the Greyhound bus station.
