Overview

Welcome to Jack Thompson's Hotel Gearin, Katoomba, located in the centre of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Hotel Gearin offers a comfortable place to rest, where you can check out bands from all walks of life and snuggle up in our comfortable, affordable accommodation.

Established in 1881, with additions being made in 1919 and 1927, Hotel Gearin is a beautiful example of the Deco period.

The centerpiece of the hotel is the classic Australian "long bar" where we serve ice cold Australian and imported draught beers along with a large range of wines, spirits and bottled beers.

Cool in summer, the hotel is beautifully warmed by two cozy open fireplaces in winter.

Come try our comfortable dining room, serving hearty and inexpensive meals to delight the holiday maker and traveler. The dining room is also available for functions, suitable for 200 guests.

We also have Foxtel showing all the big matches on our large screen. Why not come and watch your favorite sport with your mates.

Accommodation Information

Hotel Gearin offers travelers comfortable and affordable accommodation in true Aussie pub style. Our rooms range from backpacker dormitories singles & doubles through to a large family room.

As the hotel was built at the turn of the century, many of the rooms use clean and spacious shared bathroom facilities, as well as a few ensuite rooms. The rooms have beautiful high ceilings, making them light and airy. Fresh linen is provided on all beds, even in the dormitories.

Location Information

The Blue Mountains offers many beautiful bushwalks that cater to the experienced walkers as well as easier walks suited those just wishing to see a few sites.

For the more adventurous there is also abseiling, rock climbing and mountain-biking, all of which can be booked literally 1 minute walk from Hotel Gearin.
