Liked: Staff were friendly. The services were good (free pick-up from airport, bus to go the city, discounts on food and drinks) but the facilities were under our expectection (small room very basic, no design at all) except the bar that looks nice.

Liked: Very noisy the first night we were there... then it was ok, or we got used to it.We booked a tour through them, and the person who helped us for this was really friendly, but the tour was cancelled and then, even though still very friendly, we struggled to get our money back (actually, we still are, it's supposed to be in process, but nothing yet...)

Liked: I liked the fact that there was lots of place to sit outside or almost outside. Also there were lots of computers with internet, so you'd never have to wait to use a computer as in some other hostels. The room I was in (8-bed mixed dorm) was basic, but I liked the fact that it had lockers inside. Hostel was a bit remote from the city centre, but with courtesy buses going every hour it was really easy to get to the centre. All in all a really nice place, especially for what you pay it was good value for money.

Liked: kitchen facilities were excellent. however, unimpressed with the staff. we bought an accomodation and transfer package for magnetic island on the basis that it was saving us alot of money - we were told that the ferry from townsville to the island was 80$ return, this is not true it is 29$!! most of the staff are travellers so do not have indepth knowledge of the area which we found frustrating.

Liked: A little bit out of Cairns town but run a free bus back and forth until 3.30am so all good there, nice swimming pool and a good, big bar with free pool tables and a decent happy hour. Also volleyball courts and a big kitchen.The 'free meal' is advertised on their website as being a free dinner, but once you arrive they tell you it's a very small entree sized portion - so true, one night it was a small piece of garlic bread! Stayed at Global Palace backpackers in cnetral cairns who give a meal ticket for a pub down the road for a free dinner, which is an actual meal and you have 5 options to choose from! Similar prices to Serpent too - and a pool on the roof.

Liked: Free pool, decent swimming pool, beach volleyball court, pub on site, not too loud, good set up, cheap, ok kitchen, staff ok, free lifts into town, tour desk, decent atmosphere. i stayed here on my own and met some people. All in all pretty good hostel

Liked: First time to Australia, first hostel we stayed in - very impressive! Atmosphere was amazing. Rooms basic but adequate. Staff are always willing to help and give advice.
