Liked: Nice pool, good communal areas for hanging out and meeting people. We stayed in a cube room which was OK but felt it was a little expensive for what it actually was. Need more staff/organisation at reception as everytime we went there we had a long wait. But overall a good place to stay.

Liked: Ok so if you like goon and dread locks this is the place for you....however the people in our room went to bed at 7.30, the bathrooms were gross and the staff werent particularly friendly, messing up our booking was just the start of it. Anyway, our stay wasnt bad, but wasnt particularly good either! just keep in mind that there are other hostels that are better situated and that you need a deposit or id for anything you wish to use...!! The walk home in the dark wasnt particularly fun especially when we came accross a snake in the car park! Although the bush walk and sunrise trip was fun, if the girl hadnt over slept and we almost missed it....great value for money! ps do not book the teepee unless you want to bake...

Liked: The Art's Factory is a quirky traveller's oasis off the beaten track, which was a great thing in a heavily populated travellers' Mecca like Byron Bay. The biggest bonus for us was the unexpected German beerhall style bar just a stone's throw from our 'cube'. Drinks and food were on the steep side price wise, but the open mic entertainment and the pork knuckle and sauerkraut menu special made the cost a little easier to swallow. The ease of breakfast in the cafe was brilliant although the time it takes and the quality of food was fairly average - you'd pay the same in a cafe overlooking the beach so bear that in mind. The smoothies were delicious though and the $6 Thurs night Thai curry was a total bargain and being completely consumed by budget restrictions as we were we had fun blowing the rest of the night's funds in the bar across the car park! Don't stay here if you're a light sleeper as from our experience, positioned in 'cube 5', we couldn't get our heads down before 3am because of the noise from the drinkers returning home and bedding down in each other's rooms, and we were unable to sleep much beyond 6am because the iPod-wielding pool cleaner insisted on wailing her far-from dulcet Israeli or similar tones to the same song, on repeat, for the full 2 hours it took her to de-scum the water. She seemed oblivious to the time and her volume as she bopped away. I would normally have tapped her on the shoulder, but was advised by my boyfriend that this wasn't kosher in a hostel where you're meant to expect weird and wonderful. The showers could have done with a mopping out, as it was quite grim to stand in amongst big furballs of hair clogging the drains. Wear flipflops in there. We stayed 2 nights and the showers/toilets didn't appear to have been cleaned that whole time which isn't practical considering how busy the place was. On the whole it was a fun place with a real mix of nationalities. Had we been 'true' backpackers on site to get in amongst it all, as opposed to wanting a cheap bed to put our heads down for the night as we did a driving tour of the Gold Coast, we'd have loved the bar vibe in the evenings where there seemed to be just 2 enormous tables - it's an everyone knows everyone sort of place and the staff reflect that too.

Liked: Loved everything. I booked for 3 nights and ended up staying for 5. Great atmosphere, happy hour at Buddha Bar 4-6pm every day, very chilled out and relaxed place. You can do as little or as much as you want. Lots of lone travellers staying there so it's a great place to meet people. Very helpful tour desk and a great little cafe for breakfast/drinks etc

Liked: Chilled atmosphere, great playing to relax after a day trip to Nimbin.A little walk from town although they have shuttle buses.Avoid staying here for a weekend as it's full of British posers and "flashpackers" on Daddy's money.

Liked: the atmosphere of the whole place is amazing, the best hostel i have stayed in while traveling in australia, will definitely return!!

Liked: Cool atmosphere, and usually lots of stuff going on. The movie theatre and bar are both right there. There are cheap $6 dinners four days a week, but lunches and breckies can be a little pricey at the juice bar.
