"Felt like a home away from home. Lots of couches, pillows, beanbags...and a real proper fire! My nights were spent curled up on the hearth chatting to the guides, patting one of the three dogs that hang around the place…"

About On the Wallaby Backpackers Lodge

One hour - yet a million miles - from Cairns, on the Atherton Tablelands is the village of Yungaburra. It's a pretty heritage township established in 1890, filled with charming original buildings and genuinely welcoming locals.

It's both small enough to walk all around, and large enough to cater for the needs of all its visitors; as well as international class art and craft galleries, the beautifully grand Lake Eacham Hotel and delightful eateries.

A family owned and operated venture, On the Wallaby Backpackers Lodge has carefully nurtured a reputation for friendliness, cleanliness and value.

A maximum of up to thirty five people can enjoy this welcoming, relaxing base. Guests have a choice of share accommodation, double rooms or camping sites on the garden surrounds.

On the Wallaby has a special appeal to budget-conscious travellers with an interest in wildlife and nature. A host of interesting and informative activities can be experienced from the Backpackers Lodge or included with the overnight tour package. Mountain biking, day and night canoeing and tours of the waterfalls are available.
