29 Jul 2016

Travel Type:
With friends / other travellers

Trip Type:
Backpacking / gap year

Age Range:
18-24

Customer Travel Tip: Book Alcatraz tickets months in advance if you plan to visit the island. Also entering San Francisco by car from the Oakland side was a nightmare on the bay bridge, very heavy traffic so plan carefully if you want to avoid traffic.

Liked: Getting to see the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, highly reccomend cycling over the bridge as opposed to walking or driving. People generally seem friendly and the city as a whole seemed tourist friendly. Fishermans Wharf was also great to see.

Disliked: it is sad to see such high rates of homelessness in the area which leads one to question how that is possible in such an affluent area. Also the availability of Alcatraz tour tickets was extremely disappointing as they sell out weeks in advance, granted this was my fault for not looking into it earlier but they sell out months in advance.
