Customer Travel Tip: Plan for trying many different types of food available and you will enjoy.

Liked: Good food available and friendly people. Not much to do that was apparent, probably better if you spend more time. Overall a decent town.

Disliked: Fair bit of poverty. There are some dangers to be aware of. Just be smart.

Customer Travel Tip: let your hostel arrange a taxi driver!!! NEVER take a driver you don't feel comfortable with!

Travel Type:

Trip Type:
Backpacking / gap year

Customer Travel Tip: Head to the cluster of Indian restaurants and bars around Kisutu for good, cheapish food. The thali in particular is good value.

Liked: A good feel of a Muslim African city, reminded me of the rougher parts of Istanbul. It's a cool city to wander around for a couple days, and there's plenty to experience. Worth a full day wandering before you take the ferry to Zanzibar.

Disliked: It's expensive to stay, good food and especially hotels are high cost, there are no backpackers - it is very hard to meet other travellers.

Backpacking / gap year Romantic getaway Sightseeing & culture

Customer Travel Tip: Try to go through the city with public transport, use the daladala and make the experience to survive it, enjoy a trip with bajaji and talk to the friendly people.

Liked: I am a great friend of Dar es Salaam. I like this city for the people, they live there. They all are dressed so clean and colourful. They move on this special african way and despite the heat they are always friendly and helpful. I know I am a bit strange, but a like going on the daladala. For me it is a great experience to be very close to the citizens of DAR and there is no better way then using a daladala. But going with bajaji or bodaboda is fun, too. I am a fan of DAR with all its local markets, its craft shops, its overcrowded streets where everybody notice you and tries to talk to you and its wonderful beaches like Coconut Beach. I love the atmosphere of this city. Yes, there is no fresh air (except on Eazy`s Place), there are waste fires eyerywhere, there is the hot sun and only a little shelter, there are muddy streets after rain, o.k. But there is so much to be seen that I can`t turn away of this pulsating way of life.

Disliked: No, nothing!
