Things to Do in Zimbabwe
Want to know some of the standout things to do in Zimbabwe? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. Chinhoyi Caves, Chinhoyi
Located eight kilometers from Chinhoyi and close to the Chivero National Park, this impressive natural structure houses a selection of embedded fossils. But the biggest attraction is undoubtedly the ‘Sleeping Pool’, a crystal clear lake some 130 meters deep whose crystal clear waters and overhead ‘skylight’ window make it a popular diving site.
2. Nyanga Mountain, Eastern Highlands
Nyanga Mountain crowns the fantastic Nyanga National Park, a sparsely populated mountainous region with a far cooler and wetter climate than most other parts of Africa. Early in the morning, the moisture evaporating off the trees and plants is a remarkable natural spectacle.
3. The Victoria Falls
Locals call the falls Mosi-oa-Tunya, or 'The Smoke that Thunders', and certainly, one of the first things that strikes you about these enormous falls is the deafening roar. At over a mile wide, the falls are the widest in the world, and make for a truly remarkable spectacle.
4. Lake Kariba, Matusadona
One of the few places in the world where alongside all kinds of other indigenous wildlife there's the chance to catch an elephant swimming along the shore... One of the largest manmade reservoirs in the world, the lake results from a damming project along the Zambezi River, and is now the source of Zimbabwe's hydro-electric power.
5. Matobo National Park
The main attraction here is the collection of weather-beaten rock formations that defy gravity and logic, and seem to balance impossibly precariously. The National Park is also home to an incredible variety of wildlife including the small rodent Dassie, Sable and Eland Antelope, as well as the largest concentration of Black Eagles in the world.
