Overview to Zimbabwe: Travel Guide and Tourist Information
Politically shambolic, Zimbabwe certainly presents a unique challenge to the traveler. The country’s murky situation is not to be skirted over but it’s important to remember the things that make Zimbabwe a compelling destination.
And much of its appeal is still present in abundance today. The main attraction, of course, is the safari and Zimbabwe’s national parks and nature reserves are as good – if not better – than any in Africa.
While great animal watching can be found in Mana Pools on the northern tip of the country, it’s probably the diverse wildlife of the Hwange National Park that provides Zimbabwe’s very best safari and the chance to view elephants, antelope and bush-cats here is not to be missed.
The colossal Victoria Falls are only a short trip from Hwange. And, although the town of Victoria Falls may not attract as many as it once did, there’s still a functioning tourist industry here and great provisions remain for adventure sports enthusiasts in particular.
As with its rural points of interest, Zimbabwe’s cities are at once modern and interesting - and decaying and troubled. The capital of Harare still retains its hustle and bustle amongst the crumbling infrastructure and tangible unrest.
For better or worse, Zimbabwe is quite unlike anywhere else in the world. Majestic, troubled and humbling in the same breath, a trip here almost invariably leaves its own unique mark on the traveler.
