Things to Do in Zambia
Want to know some of the standout things to do in Zambia? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. The Victoria Falls
Although the water spray created by this immense natural wonder is visible from miles away, close-up, the Victoria Falls are a truly stunning sight. The awe-inspiring spectacle of the fall's massive 100 meter long, two kilometer wide, water curtain is a photo opportunity that's hard to beat.
2. The Zambezi River
This is the fourth longest river in Africa, and, filled with wildlife and vegetation, it offers great game viewing opportunities. Points of interest include the Kabira Dam, and the spring from which the river originates in the northwestern Mwinilunga District.
3. Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage
Originally a small, two person operation caring for just chimpanzees, the orphanage is now a trust offering sanctuary and rehabilitation to a wide variety of animals. Located 60 kilometers west of Chingola, the recently purchased 10,000 acres of land next door has now become a wildlife preserve, education center and tourist lodge.
4. The Livingstone Museum
Dedicated to the explorer – the first European to clap eyes upon the Victoria Falls – the collections cover art, history and natural history in addition to the belongings and travel routes of the great Doctor himself.
5. Walking Safari
Offered in a variety of the country's national parks and game lodges, a walking safari takes you closer to the plants and animals than is possible in a car. For your peace of mind as much as your education, a designated guide will be on hand at all times.
