Things to Do in Wales
1. Snowdon Outdoor Activities, Snowdonia
No trip to Wales would be complete without a visit to the country’s highest peak (at 3560ft). Scaling the mountain can be spiced up with numerous courses in rock climbing, mountain biking and abseiling offered.
2. Conwy Castle, Conwy
While Wales has over 400 castles, Conwy remains one of the better preserved and, as such, one of the most impressive. Built between 1283 and 1289, its purpose was to protect the English inhabitants from the Welsh. In the town of Conwy, it's also more accessible than many other Welsh castles.
3. Slate Caverns, Llechwedd
This Victorian mine offers a fascinating insight into the mining process. The tram tour shows visitors the methods used to mine and transport millions of tons of rock; the Deep Mine tour takes visitors through now unused mining tunnels and past underground lakes.
4. The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea
Admission is free and exhibitions span classic and contemporary art. Be sure to check out Philippa Lawrence's 'Bound Tree' project, showing a series of trees bound in various colored cloths across the Welsh counties.
5. Cardiff Bay, Cardiff
Cardiff's recent rejuvenation scheme has made the city an incredibly popular destination for backpackers. Made up of a series of sites worth a visit, including the Welsh Assembly building and historic Cardiff Docks, it also offers a lively nightlife scene.
