Flights into San Francisco are spread between three different, well-connected airports: San Fran International, Oakland International and San Jose International. The first two are served by the BART system – a free bus which runs from Oakland to a station along the line – and a free shuttle runs from San Jose International to the Caltrain system.
The most efficient way to get around the city is on the MUNI; a network of buses, cable cars, subways and street cars which runs daily from 6am to 1am. A value-for-money seven day pass costs around 20 dollars for unlimited travel.
However, it would be a shame not to take a ride on the famous cable cars during a stay in San Francisco. Despite often being crowded and rather slow, they remain an integral part of the city’s identity.
The Powell-Mason (PM) line runs to the wharf and is the most popular, while the Powell-Hyde (PH) line traverses the steepest hills. It’s also generally regarded as the most iconic, if you’re taking a ride for the experience.
