Carthage was once a powerful trading center for the Roman Empire, (although it stretches even further back to the Phoenicians in the 6th century BC). Amongst its countless other treasures, the Antoinine thermal bath ruins are some of the largest baths built under the Roman Empire.

Kairouan's souks are a rich mix of different market stalls selling reasonably priced, high-quality products ranging from gold jewelry to woven baskets. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, a walk through the busy market is an unmissable experience.
