Koh Pha Ngan Full Moon Party - Thailand

When: 01 January 2009 - 31 December 2009

There’s nothing quite like partying all night on a tropical beach. And nowhere is this more true than with the infamous ‘Full Moon’ Parties of Koh Pha Ngan.

Every month as the moon becomes full, around 10,000 revelers descend on Haad Rin beach to dance the night away. Thumping tunes and cheap drinks make for an enjoyable, raucous party that lasts just about as long as the moon hangs in the sky.

Started by a small group of backpackers, the parties quickly became the hot tip amongst the traveling hordes in South East Asia. These days, they have grown massively in popularity and are considered a ‘must do’ for travelers in that part of the world.

With such large numbers of party-goers making their way to the island each month, it is a good idea to book your accommodation well in advance, as hostels in Koh Pha Ngan often fill up quickly in the week before a Full Moon Party.

It’s often a good idea to arrive early and just soak up the odd sensation of a massive beach lit up by various luminescent bars and stalls. As the night wears on, each party is overcome by its own sense of chaos as massive sound systems pump out the loudest tunes going!

There’s not much more to a Full Moon party than tunes, dance, drink and, as the sun comes up on another day in paradise, a lot of very tired but very contented backpackers!
